Bill Nye Wants Your Help to Save Our Science

Science should never be seen as something of a danger to any opinion. It should always be supported and always be neutral, so that people on either side of the way always have some straight-forward factual source to look to.

*sighs*

On the SOS Page I noted the most recent update was in 2007. Now, with this administration at the helm, I don\'t know. Obama doesn\'t even seem the slightest concerned for NASA or exploration. It\'s almost as if it\'s a war on rational thought.

It\'s very easy to get into a conspiracy mentality about this.

Me, I think it\'s easier (if a little sadder) if you ask the question -

WHERE ARE THE VOTES IN THIS?

Basically, the rule is simple - if you can show a politician that there are more votes in supporting a particular cause than ignoring it, then the politician will support it.

So if we want to campaign in a way that matters, especially given that this is an election year in the USA, here\'s what you guys need to do.

You need to TIE YOUR CAMPAIGN TO VOTING INTENTIONS.

Want something Obama will go crazy over? Something that will get Mitt Romney\'s attention?

Get a million people to send emails to both candidates with their names on them saying 'My name is _______, and if you can add an extra 300 million to NASA\'s budget for planetary science over the next 3 years, I will vote for you. If both you and your opponent do that, then I\'ll vote for whichever one of you gives NASA the best deal.'

What do you think?

4 in 1: He didn\'t help. But it\'s the culmination of years of mismanagement. I don\'t think ANY of your presidents have ever truly understood which of NASA\'s programs were actually important; the only one that they got whole heartedly behind was the Moon landing mission, and once the prestige first was done, they slashed the budget on that too (i.e. before the real science could even start).
