Game freezes (but doesn't crash) after trying to start a career

So after 350+ hours up to 0.24.2, I haven't played much due to school. I got a new computer in that time and just elected to start anew. I installed the new game in its newest update from Steam, and then downloaded a bunch of mods I used to play with, as well as few more recommended by a friend. I tried to start a new career and the game simply freezes (but doesn't show to be "Not Responding" in task manager) every time I try.

I've tried deleting the corrupted career save and starting a new career multiple times, I've used a copy of the GameData folder before any mods were added, tried uninstalling and reinstalling the game, and trying to run a scenario or tutorial seems to do the seem thing. I'm running the 32-bit version of the game.

I have the same issue, but on linux, except it kills my whole computer.

I really would love a fix. Glad to know it's not just me.
