17t Mk II Shuttle to Orbit help

Recommended Posts

Seasoned KSP player, but this one has kicked my butt. In an effort to make KSC much like NASA's attempt at making space travel more affordable with their shuttle program, I have done the same. I've finally unlocked the parts (career) to build a shuttle, with an actual payload, namely small sats (Real Tech enabled, and no comm sat up, thats partly what the shuttle is for) and some affordable exploration around Minmus and in orbit of the mun.

So my creation, may I present the Kingfisher STS

The problem? I cant get her into orbit. I tried the whole classic space shuttle thing, but I couldn't get the thrust right even with the SSME mod pack, and lack of custom action groups prevents easy trimming of the gimbals to prevent it from spinning out of control, plus the T:W was horrid so I scrapped that idea.

So I placed 2 and 4 LFBs around the plane, see if I could get the dV that way, the answer is no. So now I'm asking for some help getting this into orbit WITHOUT touching the fuel on board.

Requirements: weighs under 140t, Height, under 36m.

Craft file here: Requires B9 and is designed to fly with FAR.

Well, after working on a survey contract I got enough science to unlock another node. I went with some bigger rockets. Turns out, great choice, cause it got me the engines I needed. May I present the Kingfisher STS, she can even reach the moon, and is 100% reuseable (assuming she lands safely).

Flight tests begin tomorrow.
