Continue Saved Game dialog boxes don't work when invalid files are found in saves

Recommended Posts

KSP Version: v0.90.0.705 Beta Windows 7 64-bit, Windows 8 64-bit

What Happens: When invalid saved games are detected in the saves folder, the dialog boxes don't work properly. There's also a typo in one of them.

Mods / Add-Ons: All Stock, using BitTorrent Sync to keep saves folder current on multiple computers.

Steps to Replicate:

  • Install BitTorrent Sync on two computers, and set them to sync the saves folder (this will create a hidden folder in saves called .sync)
  • Launch KSP, and try to load a save game. You will see an error that reads: "There are incompatible/invalid saves on [sic] your saves folder. What would you like to do? Delete / Not Now"
  • Click Not Now; the Continue Saved Game window appears, but no saved games are listed. You must then completely exit and relaunch KSP in order to do anything.

Fixes/Workarounds:

- None, besides having to manually copy the saves folder every time I switch computers

Other Notes/Pictures/Log Files:

- It would be great to be able to use BitTorrent Sync seamlessly; I'm not sure why there even needs to be a check for invalid save games. At the very least, that check could ignore hidden folders.

It does this under certain circumstances with similarly-named hidden files (like those that arise if you unzip a copy of KSP on a Mac before transferring the files to a Windows machine to play it).

I'd say this is certainly a bug; I'll retag the thread.

In the meantime, something you can do is have it sync the folders elsewhere on your computers, and then create symlinks to each of the save folders. Alternatively, you could use Dropbox or a similar service that does not create hidden files, and make a symlink to the entire folder containing your saves (i.e., create a symlink in your KSP directory that links to a directory called Saves in your Dropbox folders).
