Launcher "use 64 bit player" not launching 64 bit

In the options menu of the launcher, there is a button to enable the use of 64 bit. I assumed that when activated, it'd patch my game client to 64 bit and run. That didnt happen. Instead it launched the 32 bit client as it always does, as verified through task manager.

My install is currently running on the razor's edge of memory crash, 3.4GB. I have verified this persists without mods but I do not have logs from an unmodded session.

This is a non-critical issue as I can work around by just aquiring a fresh 64 bit version from the KSP store and transfering my mods/savegame.
