First person view of an astronaut inside Orion during reentry

This is an amazing footage. I can't recall anything like this in this detail.

Pay attention to the camera's compensation to the extreme brightness of the ionized trail. Earth below, which is very bright, is almost washed away when the camera compensates, and even then, parts of the trail are burned white, indicating sensor saturation.

Really??? I thought there was someone screaming inside while holding the camera! (°o°)

They added the music to cover that up. :D

Uhm, out of curiosity and sorry if this have been mentioned elsewhere, does the Orion capsule skip a little out of the atmosphere, before diving in again? Like Apollo?

Where is this window located?

This is a view from the top facing window, with the camera pointed upwards.

It would depend on the desired reentry profile. During this flight, the reentry profile was steep, to simulate the heat from a lunar reentry.

Ah, thank you for the reply. How about reentries from some of the imagined much longer missions, that would presumably take the capsule even further away?

It's a possibility if those missions ever get funded.

This was released footage from multiple cameras on the outside of the Orion EFT-1 capsule. The mission launched on the 5th of December 2014. There was no one aboard as this was a test flight of the Orion capsule alone- There was no service module and the LES was a dummy and only tested for it's jettison. This test also focused on Orion's communication and computer ability whilst in space. However the true key test was of the Orion heat shield which is why they had several camera throughout the exterior of the spacecraft.
