On the fly craft file

Recommended Posts

This came up in another thread, and got me thinking... is there any way to extract a .craft file from a save for a flight-in-progress? Like, to save the entire plan for a space-assembled station, or similar. The data's stored in the same format, right?

It's not directly the same. There are subtle differences, mostly in formatting, but also differences when docking. When you attach two docking ports in the editor, it's still considered 1 ship, if you launch and undock a new ship is created then. When you dock in space, it creates a tree structure where the docked ship can still exist and be undocked without losing information (in theory, doesn't always work). There is also information about the state of the craft, which only exists in the persistence file, not the craft file. Other stuff like these, I don't have a complete list.

While you could write a program that converted them, you can't simply copy and paste.
