KSP crashes entering VAB

Recommended Posts

I'm playing KSP on a macbook pro...used to have mods (KW, enhanced navball, deadly re-entry) but uninstalled them once a patch came through a while back. When I enter the VAB I get a picture of a daylight sky and a few negative color components to the left side of the screen, then the game crashes. Anything I can do? Preferably without losing my saved games? Thanks!

Okay, we're gonna need more data to work with.

First of all, if the problem's got a visual element, please send screenshots. Take screenshots with F1 and upload them to something like Imgur.

Second, we'll need your log files -- if you're not sure where to find them, see the Stock Support stickied thread for where to find the player.log file that we'll want to be looking at.

Finally, please double check that all traces of the mods you previously had installed are completely gone. :)

Thanks for the quick reply...I've added a screenshot (which is a literal picture of my screen as the game crashes too quickly for me to take an in-game screenshot) as well as a copy of the log. As far as I can tell all mods have been completely erased.

Please let me know if you need any more information. Thank you for your help!

Okay, the screenshot is normal. That's what you end up seeing whenever you enter the editor scene. It's not pretty, but it's supposed to resolve itself into proper UI pretty quickly.

And we'll need the player.log file; the KSP.log isn't even showing the crash at all, it just cuts off. Did the crash generate a full report? If it did, it should be in its own folder marked with the date and time of the crash, containing an error.log and the player.log file. Otherwise, you'll need to dig into Unity's standard storage place for the file, as the stickied thread should mention. :)

Still quite odd -- no real reference to a crash, even there. There are, however, some references to some mods -- OpenResourceSystem, Interstellar, TreeLoader, and one or two others.

Might want to make doubly sure there's nothing apart from the Squad and NasaMission folders in your ~/Library/Application Support/Steam/SteamApps/common/Kerbal Space Program/GameData/ folder.

If there really are no mods there, then something funky's going on if KSP isn't able to write to the Player.log file anymore. Would be a good idea to double check that permissions are set for KSP correctly, I think...
