Some questions about techtree and probe balance

So I am writing an MM config that makes copies of stock probes and give them increasingly better SAS modules to simulate advancement in technology while not limiting myself to a certain type of probes only. Here are some questions I need to know to help me with this because I am an amateur:

1. Where do Squad keep their tech tree definitions? Kind of a pain to poke around cfg files of things in tech nodes I want and copy/paste individually. Would be nice if I can figure out the name they use for each nodes in the code or if someone already document those names already...

2. About balancing probes:

At the moment, there are 14 probes I plan to add:

  • Stayputnik Mk. 2 (Basic SAS)
  • Stayputnik Mk. 3 (SAS lvl 1)
  • Stayputnik Mk. 4 (SAS lvl 2)
  • Stayputnik Mk. 5 (SAS lvl 3)
  • OKTO V2 (SAS lvl 1)
  • OKTO V3 (SAS lvl 2)
  • OKTO V4 (SAS lvl 3)
  • OKTO2 B (SAS lvl 3)
  • HECS 010 (SAS lvl 2)
  • HECS 011 (SAS lvl 3)
  • QBE II (SAS lvl 1)
  • QBE III (SAS lvl 2)
  • QBE IV (SAS lvl 3)
  • RC-002S (SAS lvl 3)

Now, here are my balance questions:

a) Where should I put them in the tech tree? Planning to do some rebalance and move probe cores with similar SAS level to the same node to simplify things, though this may not be ideal.

B) How much should they cost, for both research and purchase price? Considering that SAS was one of their major differentiation, if I provide them with all SAS of same level, then the remaining differentiations are reaction wheels and price. Since I am not about to modify reactions wheels, what about the prices? Should old probe retrofitted with new software and hardware cost higher than other probes to represent the retrofitting effort?

Another thing, not related, but since I am about to modify a lot of things:

For KAS users, should probes core be KAS storable?

EDIT: Another question for MM user: If I modify the stock part first in the cfg, then make a copy of it later, would the copied part carry the modification too? Or do I need to make the stock modification on a separate config and copy config to run after it?
