AC-130 Gunship

Hello there!

Check out this 100% stock close air support gunship! Inspired by the AC-130, but not meant to be a replica.

At over 800 parts, this flying giant features real propeller propulsion (4 custom-made reaction wheel driven engines) and an aim-able side cannon with deadly accurate adjustable optics.

But don't take my word for it, watch it in action:

It has a lot of room for aesthetic improvement, but, like most of the stuff I share, it's more of a proof-of-concept. Let me know what you think!

Enjoy!

How did you get the props to rotate like that?

AFAIK none of the stock parts do that kind of rotation?

By using landing gear wheels as bearings and reaction wheels set to max roll trim to drive the rotation. This video gives you a good view of how it works (just skip to the end):

Stock propellers ?! The new Cargo Bays certainly make Good Casing for the engines, I might jump back in developing a stock TurboFan :o

Btw, whats the top speed of this thing?

I actually tried that! Surprisingly not as effective as a prop. But perhaps it was just the way I set it up. And the max cruising speed is close to 30 m/s I believe

Can you make a BD Armory version?

Short answer: no

Long answer: I like playing stock because it presents a great challenge trying to create something the parts weren't intended for. Using a mod that gives you those things for free takes the fun out of it and results in a much less impressive (in my eyes) craft.

Not bashing mods, just letting you know why I don't use them.
