Can't find my old thread

Hi, I posted a thread months ago about problems with inhumane long loading times but I can't just find it anymore. When I search for my own user name only one post comes up. Where are all the others? Archived somewhere? Deleted, and if so: why?

I have the link from my bookmarks, http://forum.kerbalspaceprogram.com/threads/87428-Crashreport-modded-KSP-64-bit.

Couldn't find it using advanced search, so i'm guessing it was deleted, all I could find was this post. (probably due to arguments getting out of hand on it, or the original post might not of been high enough quality, or a thread might of already been started about it, are all possibilities I can think of off the top of my head)

Then again, i'm not staff, so I don't know how things work around here for sure.

It's strange because in this view it says I've made ~20 posts but searching only brings up one. Whatdaf***?

As a moderator, I was able to view the thread. It was archived because the KSP forums were being reorganized at the time, and it was felt that many support posts back then were outdated with respect to the more recent versions of the game.

If your original problem persists with the latest version of the game, you are more than welcome to repost your query in the appropriate support subforums (unmodded or modded).

Shouldn't it be appropriate to have a subforum with old archived threads?

We do have such a thing, indeed. It's simply hidden from public view.

The response to the thread in question was to the tune of "update your mods"; not exactly a useful fix, if your mods are already up to date. If there's anything that is required from the archive, you are free to ask a moderator to pull it to a public section for viewing, but for the most part those old threads really aren't of use to anyone.

Where? I don't see it.

"Hidden from public view" is what I said. So yes, you cannot see it. I don't know the exact reasons behind why it was made private, but that decision was made at some point, because it seems the Archives were once visible to the public in some manner. Perhaps Sal or Kasper would know.

Even we moderators have trouble getting to the Archives without some kind of a link there -- they aren't visible on the forum's main page, but we can still find them if we have a link or know the ID number of the Archives forum.

"Hidden from public view" means "hidden for all users, except moderators"?

Those old threads were hidden because of the restructuring Sumghai mentioned earlier. There were literally thousands of threads in the Support forum which had to be sorted and moved individually, and we deemed that more work than it was worth because a lot of them were months old at the time already. The threads are still around for devs/moderators to reference and we do get a request to take a look at one of them every now and then from users who want to know what was in the thread. Still, going through thousands of those threads one by one to determine in which support forum they should be is not worth the effort :)

Oh, that's mainly because the threads in there range from old to archaic, and are not very (if at all) helpful at this point. In the case of support especially, things change so often that looking at support requests from several versions ago might only provide misinformation.

That's really sad actually. Although those old threads might not be helpful in the most cases, there's really no reason to censor the forum. If you are afraid that people may be misinformed, just add a banner telling that the information might be outdated.

This is not censorship in the least:

Censorship is the suppression of speech, public communication or other information which may be considered objectionable, harmful, sensitive, politically incorrect or inconvenient as determined by governments, media outlets, authorities or other groups or institutions

In this case those threads were archived because it's too much work to sort and move them, compared to the benefit it would yield.

And even if we added a banner saying "THIS INFORMATION IS OUTDATED", people looking through there would be ignoring it the majority of the time. Believe me, we have tried many times to get that kind of thing to work in one way or another (using a banner to convey important information), and the only result to speak of is that yes, people ignore it, regardless of how pertinent it might be.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
