Forum bug: Cannot edit OP

When I try to edit [thread=60961]this OP[/thread] my browser scrolls down to the end of the page, where the quick edit box is. The edit box for the OP shows up on the top of the page, but Save/Go Advanced/Cancel buttons are not functioning at all. I can edit my other posts on that thread though.

This thing happened to me some time ago (maybe a year) on the same thread, but started working again a few days later. However, this time this is going on for more than a week.

It happens in both Chromium and Firefox browsers, even if I go to private mode and/or disabe cache.

The only way to verify that is to have you login from an entirely different location (e.g., internet kiosk, a friend's house, etc.) and try it from there -- have you already attempted this? It could be something to do with your ISP caching corrupt data, or an issue with the connection from your location.

But I doubt it's a vB bug. We have had vB bug out on posts on occasion, but those are always system-wide and affect any user who attempts to edit the post, regardless of their privileges. Having it behave different ways for different users is not something we've ever encountered. Certainly, it's possible, but the likelihood is extremely low.

Nope, ISP doesn't matter. (Why would it? It can only cache DNS, not any actual content AFAIK.)

I can see on Firefox console that an error occurs in vbulletin_quick_edit.js while it parses some JSON data. It happens right when I click edit on my thread, so I assume that JSON data are probably some AJAX data it gets from the server, but I didn't manage to extract it though.

Could you delete contents of that OP (I have a backup)?

Thanks, but it didn't work. I've opened a [thread=1673166]new thread[/thread]. Could you lock the old one? Is it possible to transfer posts from the old thread and append them to the new one (I mean COPY, not MOVE, I don't want to break all the links that point to the old posts)?

If I just move the posts, any links going directly to the posts will still work and be directed to wherever the post is in the new thread. Despite the format of forum links, a post ID trumps a thread ID, so any direct links to posts will work fine. (Closed the old thread; please let me know whether you'd prefer the existing posts copied or moved.)

EDIT: Actually, now that I've gone and tried to figure out how to do that, I've realised that's impossible. vB sorts posts in a thread by their post date, and copying a post does not change that date. As a result, your new OP would just be pushed to the very back of the thread, and whoever's post was made earliest would become the OP.

This thread is quite old. Please consider starting a new thread rather than reviving this one.
