Crashes In 0.90.0 KSP

Recommended Posts

Okay, I got KSP 0.90.0 today but when I fired it up, it will load about 25% before crashing.

In the log, it said Access Violation (0xc0000005). I don't know how to put a log without taking making a wall of text since I'm actually new to this forum business.:sticktongue:

Please take a moment to read the Stock Support thread that's stickied in this section. It should help with gathering data, if you missed anything. We'll need both the error.log and the output_log.txt files.

Please upload them to http://www.pastebin.com/ or a similar website, or a public Dropbox or Google Drive folder will also work if you have an account with them. :)

Oh, yeah, that stuff. I forgot I have to do those since I was so excited to play Beta.

Well, here's the links:

Error File: http://pastebin.com/fVCP5pTq

Output log File: http://pastebin.com/eNWUzUm6

The Version of KSP is 0.90.0, Windows 7 Ultimate, x86 bit and non-Steam.

If those are not clear enough, I'm willing to send some more info.

x86 systems are going to really struggle with 0.90 as even just the stock game brings it nearly to the edge of RAM usage allocation. You're almost certainly running out of memory - try launching it using OpenGL (if your graphics card supports that) or installing ActiveTextureManagement, see if those stop the crashes.

One question, how do I launch in OpenGL mode? Is it a new feature that came with the 0.90?

I'm currently trying to get ATM, will report back should it work.

On a separate subject, what could be causing the RAM crashes? The new MK3 parts?

You need to add it as a launch option - what I've done is make a shortcut to the KSP exe and made the target

"H:\Games and software\Kerbal Space Program 090\KSP.exe" -popupwindow -force-opengl

Obviously, your KSP location will change and there's a way to do it via Steam as well, but I don't use Steam for KSP.

RAM crashes are caused by whatever brings you over the RAM limit - it's not one specific part, it's the fact there's lots of parts (but with 0.90 and the Mk3 parts.. I'd say they're not helping, for sure).

ATM and OpenGL did not work.

OpenGL just crashed before even showing the loading screen.

ATM loaded to 99% before crashing. I tried both Basic and Aggressive.

What now?

EDIT:ATM Seems to crash at "mk2cockpitstandardinteral". Dunno if that is the problem.

Remove some of the parts and let ATM churn away at them - it still needs to load them in order to compress them. So yeah, remove, say.. the Mk1, SPP and Mk3 parts, load up KSP and let ATM convert the remaining ones. KSP should fully load then. Exit out of it, put all those parts back in, and ATM will convert those and load its already converted textures from the previous run.

There may be a problem with x86 systems with the latest ATM - if you get dynamic heap allocation warnings or something, post in the ATM thread and someone should point out a fix or link the version of ATM you should use (I can't remember the specifics).

Hope this helps.

Open up your Settings.cfg file in Notepad and look for the TEXTURE_QUALITY line. Change this value to 1 (so it reads TEXTURE_QUALITY = 1) and save the file. Then try to run KSP again.

Some of the default settings were overwritten in 0.90, causing the textures to take up more memory than necessary in some cases.

Tried that, didn't work. This is a different kind of "messed-up" KSP game.

Actually, I think KSP hates me for not updating when 0.25 came out.

In all seriousness though, I still can't open KSP without it crashing in "MK2 cockpit standard Internals". So, yeah, there's that.

Wait -- you jumped from a pre-0.25 version to 0.90? Okay, that can sometimes leave redundant files in the GameData folder from old parts that aren't used anymore or have been repurposed. Typically that will just cause KSP to hang, but a crash isn't entirely unheard of. You might want to try emptying out the GameData folder entirely and getting the Launcher/Patcher to update the game again.
