Eve probe landing with FAR, RT and DRE

Recommended Posts

I read an older thread or two, yet still would just like to know if anyone else managed to land a probe safely on Eve using FAR, RemoteTech (with or without signal delay) and Deadly Reentry, and any and all advice you have about doing it. Pe altitude, amount of heat shields etc? I'm about to embark on it for the first time.

I used the Procedural PArts Heatshield, worked like a charm, PE of about 70km, you want to make several passes, or dip down and then come back up just below the edge of the atmosphere. You will need to quicksave and experiment with different PE heights.

I did it a while ago, almost two years ago with all that you mentioned, RT2 DRE FAR with signal delay on.

The trick was I had to program in EVERY command into the flight computer some 7 minutes before they actually happened, and I had to do this in a 10min window before I lost signal with the probe. I was also trying to land in a very specific set of coordinates because it was part of a challenge. I succeeded in landing the probe within 100m of the target, but it wasnt a perfect landing. There was an error in the programming and the landing gear never deployed so it landed fine then just rolled down a hill and then deployed its antenna. But it was successful mostly.

It was the last time I sent anything to Eve.... kind of sad really.
