Change the order of Kerbonauts

With Jeb stranded in orbit, Bill is the first Kerbonaut in my crew roster, and he almost invariably ends up in the only pilot seat of every mission I launch, despite the fact that I have hired other pilots. Even when I've changed the crew in the VAB, if for any reason I come out of it and save the vessel, if I load it up again Bill has usurped my nominated pilot. Is there any way to change this default?

Launch a pod, eva Bill, and put bill somewhere off the launch pad. Bill now gets a front row to all the launches but is close enough if he is needed for a mission.

I have this exact problem. I may have to resort to doing just that.

Maybe I can make some seats for spectators. Command seats, girders, maybe some structural panels for armour plating in case of rogue SRBs...

Kerbals can observe from the bunker next to the Level 1 launchpad in career. (I rather wish there was something that amusing in the Level 2 launchpad. Though that's Way Too Close for the fully-upgraded pad, given the potential blast radius of fully-upgraded explosions!)
