Thinking about an old song...

I'm thinking about the song "The final countdown"

Is it about space travel? The first verse is:

We're leaving together

But still it's farewell

And maybe we'll come back

To earth, who can tell?

I guess there is no one to blame

We're leaving ground

Will things ever be the same again?

This seems to be about a lift off, and leaving the planet.

Do you think that's what it's about?

One of my favorite songs.

Unfortunately, it's scientifically illiterate....

To me, it's about a space flight to contact an alien civilization on Venus.

We're heading to Venus

and still we stand tall

'cause maybe they've seen us

and welcome us all.

ETA: The scientifically illiterate part, aside from thinking there could be an advanced alien civilization on Venus over a decade after the Russians proved it was a hellscape, comes in right at the end of the above stanza, where they add "With so many light years to go and things to be found".

Well, you could get a bit creative with that. Heading to Venus does not actually mean you are going to Venus, and the light year part is not really wrong. They are just saying they have a long distance to travel.

Perhaps. Taken literally, though...no, just no.

I would almost assume Venus could be metaphor or analogy(did I say that right?) for something somehow.. >< Something besides a smoking hot round celestial body.... Though I could be wrong!

And American was a Canadian band, correct? What is Europe? An American or Australian band? (Wiki says Sweden. At least it's in the ballpark!)
