My proudest moment in KSP

Right, so today I sent a rover and a probe to Duna and Ike. The rover went to Duna. I detached my engine from the rover and came down to Duna. But, I was going so fast, not even the atmosphere would stop me. Luckily the chutes did. Though, I was still going to fast, and when I landed, the Materials bay and the wheels came of. The rest survived. I am currently going to work on something to carry parts of a base with a launchpad there, so then I can bring the Kerbal home.

Now, this is where things get unexpected. I really didn't want to use MechJeb to land on anything anymore, so I tried it by myself on Ike. Somehow, I DID IT. A guy, who uses MechJeb all the time, who has no actually experience in landing, I did it. I was absolutely amazed when I did it. Then, I did something even MORE surprising for myself. I got into a Semi-Orbit, and LANDED in ANOTHER BIOME. I was so proud, even though it's you guys' bread and butter (aka most of you have done it before alot) and I thought to myself, "my best ever episode of KSP" :)

So yeah! Some how, I got to a moon with no atmosphere, and failed on an atmosphered planet. :P

Also, I have landed on Duna before, but at the poles. :P

Well done. You have taken your first step into a much larger world. Though it seems astonishing now, in time you will look back on this moment and realize that it was merely the beginning of something far greater.

Well, as long as you don't go back to letting an autopilot do everything for you, that is. But after experiencing the thrill of doing it yourself, I would think that path will seem less appealing now.

Nice! Ike is relatively straightforward, pretty much like the Mun. Duna, though, Duna is my nemesis. The atmosphere lures you into thinking you can use chutes, or powered land with modest delta-V, but then your hopes are dashed against the surface as the air is too thin to help you.

Eh, it's not that bad. Just use lots of chutes, and set them to open at around 2000-3000m. That will get you down to about 32m/s, and you can do the rest with engines. I managed to land a pretty good sized ship made up of Mk3 parts using something like ten or so 'chutes and two LV-909 engines. It was a bit hairy and I lost an engine lithobraking but it worked. :D

My biggest problem on Duna is landing it WHERE I want it to, particularly when running rescue ops. That's when I get really tempted to download MJ.

I did that too, but I had no engines. I'm so smart. :D

Yeah, I was surprized when Ikes gravity was the same as the Muns. Well, roughly.
