Managing multiple flights simultaneuosly - show next burn over all vechicles

Recommended Posts

Now that the manuver nodes are persistent I found then very fun. However they have left me wanting a feature really bad. I would like there to be a feed of upcoming events for the space program and particularly which planned nodes are coming up and how much time room I have between them. Currently I have to highlight each flight in the observatory in turn to check for it manually. It shows the mission elapsed time for each flight but I think time for next burn/planet intersection/reentry would be way more essential.

I think this is a big diffference between flying a bunch of unrelated flights and operating a proper space program.

This would be great but I don't think it's possible under the current system. Physics stops for all vessels on rails, and running burns for vessels so far away relative to the focus vessel would certainly result in some heavy numerical errors. I wonder if there isn't a way to simulate physics on a limited number of vessels in the background. Incidentally, something like that would allow for non-non-focused objects to reenter the atmosphere without user control, so things like debris with periapse at something like 26km would not orbit perpetually.

You know, some things I would rather they left as mods just for the fact that SQUAD can't seem to do as good as the original. Alarm Clock is one of those. Unless they directly implement KAC as is, I can almost assure you I would hate whatever they came up with.

Kerbal Alarm Clock would be a great addition to the stock game, I find it extremely useful. Besides node management, it keeps me from warping through a SOI intercept. I also use it to alarm me of an upcoming transfer window.

This and Engineer are my two "must have" mods.

I will look after the mentioned mod. However I am a bit awry piecing a game together myself. That is usually the job of a developer. I am assuming it allows the input of arbitrary times, but I would still have to look up the relevant info and input by hand and I would still be left with the task of finding which craft is closest to it's burn time. Ideally I wouldn't need to know when the next node is just that I pilot the vechicle with the next upcoming node.

I don't wish to change what vechicles are simulated and what are not. All the relevant information is already displayed in the planetarium. I wouldn't trust any autopilot with the manuver details anyway. With a single vechilce you can visually see when something other than waiting is the appropirate action. however it is very easy to skip over another vessels manuver node while acclerating time focused on another. This is even true in the planetarium as you can't have all the nodes displayed at once (you would have to constantly cycle between them the faster the bigger the time acceleration).

I think this would be mostly resolved if the ability to sort the Tracking Center list were implemented in stock: sort by mission duration so far (the current default, I believe); sort by name (useful for grouping pieces split off from the same mothership); sort by type; sort by mass; sort by part count; maybe sort by amount of fuel remaining; sort by number of kerbals aboard; and most relevantly: sort by time until next planned maneuver. These would all be extremely useful sort options.
