Simulating while not focused on ship.

For example: Simulating a station you built while flying another ship. In other words, having the engine continue simulating the physics (and power drain etc.) for the station even if you aren't focused on it. I know this may be asking too much from the engine lol.

No, once you are out of physics range and electrical draw/power generation stops. TAC life support simulates this by calculating the drain/generation based on how long you have been unfocused and what those values should be.

There's no mod that does physics in the background that I know of (that would be mucho expensive) - there IS one that does power drain and such though:

Background Processing

It even simulates panel orientation (although simplified: panels won't be blocked by the rest of the ship, only celestial bodies etc).
