Attachment Points

Recommended Posts

Hi all, Im trying to get a handle on attachment points and all. I thought that there is a key combination or tool that allows you to attach parts to none attachment points?? attachpoint.jpg

Im trying to do a possible setup of a SkyCrane to get this onto the surface of Mun, but I cant get a good centered attachment.

Any and all suggestions welcome. Thanks, WMC

That looks like a probe body if i'm not mistaken, so you should try radial parts.or, alternatively, you could use a cubic strut/rockomax radial attachment point and attach them onto the part radially to create a hardpoint.

What this guy said. Or editor extensions mod.

In stock the combination Alt+R (RShift+R for Linuxers - and that's a stretchy key combo!) will force a part to only stack attach. Useful for things like docking ports. But there's no way to make a part radially attachable that otherwise isn't. You need to use an intermediate part that attaches radially and provides a free attachment node. The cubic octagonal strut is most commonly used for this because it's massless, but many parts will work especially now we have the editor gizmos.

^ I second Pecan's advice

The radial attachhment point is also massless... and in some cases it looks better... although with the offset tools, you can hide the cubic strut pretty well too

"title = BZ-52 Radial Attachment Point

manufacturer = Found behind the Clamp-O-Tron factory

description = Originally a defective Clamp-O-Tron docking port, engineers soon discovered it had great potential as a structural element.

PhysicsSignificance = 1"

^ that last part... means it is massless too
