  1. #Speed_Kerman Thanks for your help. I will build a couple more mk3 SSTOs and see how they compare but this is the most the successful Mk3 SSTO I have built so far. I have currently never landed an SSTO on Duna so I think I'll try and walk before I can run. Going to attempt to build a functioning MK3 Duna SSTO before going to Laythe. I have also heard that Matt Lowne had heating troubles with his Laythe SSTOs and I'm not a big fan of heat myself so Laythe is going to be super fun. Anyway thanks!
  2. Hi. You guys must know me as the idiot who doesn't understand re-entry very well. Anyway I have a different question today. Do any of you master SSTO builders have any tips on building interplanetary (Not cargo sstos to get into orbit) SSTOs? I have built two that can get into orbit. They both have an easy ascent path due to a super overpowered TWR. They are very different. One of them is basically a rip-off of Omnichrome's Duna cargo ssto. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=arujaPn4EBY The other one has instead of a big cargo bay, a big mk3 fuselage. I believe (haven't yet tested it) that it can get to Laythe and back, having around 1000 units of oxidizer left in LKO. Here is a 3 picture album that shows the two SSTO's either in action or in the SPH. Ok so I suck at building SSTOs. May I have some tips on building a good SSTO or if I'm doing anything wrong in these SSTOs or just complement me on my halfway decent SSTO designs??? Eh just give me the protips.
  3. Uh missions to Jool take at least three years. Do you mean you want a habitation module for them to live in rather than a small cockpit?
  4. I am on mobile again. Anyway congrats to jacobJHC for completing the challenge! Will add you to the leaderboard later.
  5. Good idea Hopefully it has enough firepower to get into orbit and take off from whatever body though. (This is why I used eight)
  6. I was actually thinking of doing that but since I already uploaded a picture on Kerbalx, I didn't need to. Anyway let me do that.
  7. If it is mk1, I have had the same problems. It is annoying as heck.
  8. Dusk is an easy to fly mk3 SSTO that was originally designed for Duna and has tons of m/s in LKO I haven't tested it yet but I got it into orbit! Yeah KER broke so it was showing me only the intake air so I have no idea how much DV it had in LKO. Yeah so I'm basically being lazy and asking more experienced SSTO builders to test it for me. (Yeah I'm an idiot) So this has kind of turned into a mixture of a challenge and a showcase... Anyway try taking it to Laythe! I'm sure it's possible if you add a little more fuel. 9. Ok. I believe using mk1 inline cockpit is a good idea. The mk1 command pod doesn't even work for me but the inline cockpit is pretty dang re-entry proof. Also I have re-entry at 100%. Is that right?
  10. I do capsule only but I still need to turn off SAS to survive even coming back from the Mun.
  11. Well that's the only way I can re-enter safely.
  12. And turn off SAS. If you are not pointing exactly in the right direction, you'll burn up.
  13. Ok. The Mk1 cockpit, command pod and lander can heat up and explode in the upper atmosphere from a direct descent. The mk1 crew cabin however (which has a lower heat tolerance) does NOT burn up at all. It doesn't even get heat gauges. Please explain.
  14. On mobile atm. So I can't give official award but I will do that in the morning! Nice job! Understatement. Awesome job! I don't think I can make a badge on my own but if someone can help me with that, I'd do it! Again great job!
  15. I have. Was inspired by mr.overfloater's videos on YouTube. I will keep trying but it's tough for me. Been having trouble with re-entry heat so it would be good but I am horrible at that stuff!
  16. Cool but what I meant was that someone post it as a challenge in challenge/mission idea forum. And when you build stuff with structural parts, where do you start???!
  17. Speaking of challenges, would be nice to see someone make a challenge to build a space/airplane with a custom cockpit. I'm quite terrible with building planes with structural plates and wings but it is an idea.
  18. Been a while since my last post but... I ran out of ideas for things to send to Dres. (which is pretty silly when you think about it) Anyway earlier, I was building an interplanetary ship that used mining so I could go and explore the solar system and I thought, "Why don't I make this go explore Dres?" So I moved it from my normal KSP save to my special Dres save! (Yes I made a whole save for Dres-related stuff.) So I had a couple of problems. First I forgot reaction wheels. (Not going to use Monopropellant because it adds too much mass.) and this made it hard to turn. Second, I had a shroud on the nuke that when separated, would have trouble escaping the spacecraft and break all the solar panels and radiators. I also forgot action groups at first but after a complete failure, I reverted and tried it again, this time succeeding. To be continued!
  19. Seperatrons are the best option but if your strap-on boosters are too big, I'd suggest flea solid rocket boosters.
