  1. Ladies and Gentlemen, I present the fully orbit capable Enterprise. I was trying to create a stock version of this ship having only succeeded in creating a mod version with C7 parts before. As luck would have it, the C7 parts I had used in the past became a part of the game. I used what I call a 'doppelganger' design in which I doubled up on the saucer and nacelles in order to balance it for take off. Once you get yourself in a nice stable orbit just eject the doppelganger and what you have is a very nice Enterprise space station. Right now you can only apply a very small amount of thrust with the remaining fuel or she will put her nose down and go for a spin. This is because there is only fuel left in the nacelles which isn\'t very balanced. Future incarnations will try to put the last of the fuel in the impulse engines; in past designs I\'ve found that to be very stable. This is the setup. I found that after cloning the saucer and nacelles I had to replace the SAS modules individually or else bad things happen after take off. I don\'t know if it\'s a glitch but the cloned SAS modules would make it spin out of control. After Orbit she can only fire those nacelles, looks awesome but isn\'t great for flight. I know there is an excess of SAS on this thing but they are more for aesthetics than anything else. They are the only pieces besides RCS tanks that are short and fit the main tanks. Perhaps when docking arrives I will be able to refuel this thing in orbit. I think I saw somewhere this would be a feature of docking.
  2. Did you just mix two awesome sci-fi references? I think you did and it\'s awesome. What threw me off when I was younger and I read 2001 was the fact that he set the first book around Saturn and if I\'m not mistaken he wrote it after the movie. He just thought it was cooler at the time to make it Saturn but when it came time for him to write the sequel he decided to make it Jupiter again. Guess he really wanted the whole Jupiter goes splodey and turns into a star thing more than he wanted to keep the original setting of the first book. My copy of 2010 has a preface by the author explaining his thoughts on the matter. I did this many times trying to get to the sun in the previous versions, just wasn\'t expecting it from a moon. Makes total sense though.
  3. I had landed two craft on Minmus right next to what I like to think of as a fissure and not so much a glitch in the patchwork of the terrain. Approaching anomaly landing site This ship has been modified with landing gear to travel to the fissure You can see the fissure on the right as I approach my other landed craft. Sadly the approach made one of them explode By the time I got to it my rover had fallen completely apart but all I had to do now was roll myself into the crack. Into de planet coooorrrrreeeee The best part was being ejected out the other side. Just look at that speed! I had a ton of fun with this adventure so I hope you all enjoyed it. ;P
  4. I\'ve become fascinated with making odd shapes fly. I wanted to see what would happen if I put engines on the far front of the plane and the result was surprisingly stable aircrafts. Take a look and fly if you like. The beetle is really agile, probably the most agile thing I\'ve made while the centipede is meant for longer trips and sacrifices some of its turn ability.
  5. I saw a bunch of crafts built to carry a rocket under their belly and release them to achieve orbit. I thought why not just put the wings on the rocket and eject them? So here it is, the Sparrow. You have to take it to the end of the runway and keep your nose up when you drop off. Then work your way to a vertical climb. Wait until you reach 17,000 meters, when the engines produce no more lift and eject the wing assemblies. You have to wait until they don\'t produce lift or else they will fly up and crash into the remaining rocket. There is a wing at the front of the rocket that needs to be ejected separately or it will crash into your engine. From there just follow standard orbiting procedures and you are good to go. Have fun! Ok, fixed the problem with the forward wings, they can now eject with everything else.
  6. God yes. I love your drawing of Jupiter! I think we are waiting for this someday. And what a magnificent day that will be ;P
  7. That\'s pretty awesome! I borrowed your design for the stage 1 boosters on my own ship and it worked like a champ. Simple and elegant. Never thought to trade out regular rockets for the smaller thrust vectoring rockets you got going with the tri-couplers at the bottom. 8) Thanks for teaching me something new!
  8. You blew my mind when you reversed your orbit to intercept the planet again. I\'m going to try some Solar orbit return missions now! Also, loved watching you skip off the atmosphere. Towards the end I was hoping you\'d show it.
  9. I like your style! I have a few ships that can certainly get out that far but I\'ve never thought to prepare a landing vehicle. Kudos! ;D Is this a one way trip or do you intend to make it back to Kerbin with this design?
  10. I too thank the KSP team! I was absolutely blown away by this game when I discovered it last August. it has provided the kind of childlike joy I used to have for games when i was younger, something that I cannot find with today\'s AAA titles. I have already gotten my monies worth. I have never before been so inspired by a game that I wanted to become a part of the community and this game has brought me out of my shell. Thanks KSP, what you have developed here sets my imagination ablaze with possibilities for the future of gaming. Where else do you get an entire solar system as your sandbox?! Even if it is just a planet, star and moon right now it is something to behold that we can create our own vessels and travel to other worlds.
  11. PS: your avatar is my favorite scene in that movie. For anyone who doesn\'t know:
  12. yeah, I\'m not readily seeing it either. Looks great and love the amount of ordinance it carries!
  13. Agreed, craft file is needed. I would like to take it for a spin. ???
  14. Ok, so I\'ve built a mod version of the same ship that has tons of juice and can get you anywhere you want to be in the Kerbal universe but I\'ve been working on a stock version now and all I can do is get the saucer section into orbit (this means ejecting the nacels and body once the fuel runs out). I\'d like to get the whole thing into orbit but anything I add makes her launch unstable. I\'ve attached the craft file here and maybe someone can figure a delivery vehicle to get more out of her. The reason I want a stock version is so that it will stand the test of time through all the updates. The biggest challenge is that the stock version is a lot heavier than its mod counterpart and uses most of its fuel getting to altitude. update: I\'ve added the mod version as requested ;D You will need novapunch remix, c7 and the c7 experimental packs. You can do a lot with this one and I love the look of the C7 experimental parts. Novapunch is used for the delivery vehicle.
