K.N.S fleet ship yards (3 new ships, plus some more polish)).

Recommended Posts

Welcome to the Kerbal Navy fleet shipyard.

My personal repository for ships and navy aircraft's, using a minimal amount of mods.

Basically what i'm going for here is, to create pretty much every type of ship/navy aircraft out there, at some point.

Mods used in this project.

Spoiler

Currently being used for the KHC-85 and the KF-188 Fornet. Its also being used in all our CV's (aircraft carriers).

It is used in pretty much all our ships and planes.

Used in some ships and in some planes.

Used in the catapult-plane.

I decided to scrap the project board since it was becoming a BIT messy.

Now its going to include completed and coming soon ships, descriptions for them and download links. I have also edited some of the descriptions for some crafts.

EDIT: the ships are now inside spoilers to make the post more shorter and easier to load on potato computers and mobile devises. Aircraft's will probably be put inside spoilers as well.

So, here they are (these are in order of type):

NOTES ABOUT SHIP BUILDING:

All big combat ships (Cruisers, destroyers, frigates and battleships) are built in similar ways, so, things like radars, chaffs, flares, multiple probe cores, littered ammo boxes, etc, can most likely be found on all of them.

Plus, unless other wise noted, controls (action groups) will be the same on all ships (and i mean all) and going into the water works the same way as well.

Action groups:

Action group 1. main engines

Action groups 2 and 3 for maneuvering engines.

Going into water:

It's very easy, just use your side engines to veer off the runway while using your main engines to move forward. Be mindful about your speed tough.

The procedure is pretty much the same for all the ships, tough a slower speed is adviced for larger vessels, as their turn-rate isn't as good as on the smaller vessels. They are also harder to slow down on the slopey shore section.

EDIT: To launch huge navy vessels, i have created a ship ramp, that will allow the ships to just glide gently into the water. IT reduces the risk of explosions and risk of headaches.

EDIT: The ship-ramp and the naval-base are gone now.

I taught it would be a better idea to do it this way than to put the same notes on all ships, taking time and space.

Cruisers:

K.S.S Krucible CA-35. A balanced cruiser for all your combat needs. Can attack ships and aircraft's coming from any direction.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/lht52jlr7597zxc/K_S_S Krucible CA35.craft?dl=0

Spoiler

  K.S.S Krucible CA-35

bcglWvv.png

Top speed: 38 m/s. with its top speed it can reach the island runway in 16 and a half minutes.

During this trip it used 2850 units of fuel (estimate).

Armaments: 2 Abrams turrets, 2 Patriot launchers, 12 Hydra turrets, 2 Goalkeepers and lots of chaffs and flares.

Length: 84.3m

Width: 12.1m

Height: 21.8m

Mass: 384.1 tons

Parts: 808

The Krucible also includes some features, like a heli-deck and lifeboats (licensed to carry 10 Kerbals each).

NOTE: the ship veers to the right a tiny bit, so don't leave it alone for too long or it will be going around in huge circles.

http://imgur.com/a/5Gyzn

K.S.S Avenger CA-45. A cruiser for more head on attacks. Has powerful front batteries but is vulnerable to attacks coming from the rear. Also has powerful AA weapons.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/wyo1dredkedhj6n/K_S_S Avenger CA-45.craft?dl=0

Spoiler

K.S.S Avenger CA-45

The Avengers design is heavily based on the U.S.S Boston GMC.

http://imgur.com/a/37fWn

Going into the water works the same way as in the Krucible and it's dimensions and maneuverability are pretty much the same since its built on the same hull.

It does have a top speed of 44 m/s tough, witch makes it quite a lot faster than the Krucible.

Armament: 2 Abrams turrets, 5 Goalkeepers, 6 rocket turrets and 2 Jernas systems.

Mass: 354 tons

Parts: 829

Carriers:

K.S.S Killyoustrious CV-6. A 200mx30m sized carrier with a launch ramp at the front. Designed to carry and maintain a sizeable air-group consisting of heavy and light fighters. KEEP AWAY from combat at all times. Good short range AA weapons but very vulnerable against everything.

EDIT: the ship has been broken due to the new update and explodes as soon as the physics kick in.

Spoiler

K.S.S Killyoustrious CV-6 (a bit of a bad name)

This carrier is inspired by, as the name suggests, the H.M.S illustrious.

http://imgur.com/a/S10LW

NOTE:As i said in the first pick, you can just go straight off the runway. Just glide down at a speed of around 10-6 m/s and you will make it.

If you choose to veer of the runway like you would in the Krucible, it WILL explode.

I believe that the explosions where caused by the rear mast, so i removed it and i also added some more struts.

Also, i have tested the ramp and it works like a charm, aircraft's don't just bounce of off it.

Top speed: 30-35 m/s

Armament: 3 Goalkeepers (used to be 4)

Length: 215m

Width: 35m

Height: 25m

Mass: 2,745.637tons

Parts: 937 (it seem like a lot, but it's not even that laggy.)

It has a pretty good turn rate and it also has about 70000 units of fuel loaded witch should be enough for a while.

K.S.S Freedom CV-44:

A new type of carrier with a hangar deck and an aircraft elevator. Can support light fighters, and that's about it. Needs a proper escort to survive in combat.

Has good short range AA-weapons. Lacks flares and chaffs.

EDIT: the ship has been broken due to the new update and explodes as soon as the physics kick in.

K.S.S Kerbinprise CV-6:

A useless monster of a carrier created cause, hey, why not. Does include 3 nice carrier plane replicas tough.

Seaplane tenders: (To be used with choppers and VTOL's)

K.S.S Fine Island AV-6. A seaplane tender that is used to support large choppers and VTOL's. Has multiple main guns for defense that excel at taking down ships from long range. Lacks long range AA-guns but has numerous short range AA-guns.

Slow and sluggish and lacks flares and chaffs. Can be used in close combat, but probably better to keep it away from that.

Gunboats/Corvettes:

KSTRB-900 (Kerbal super tactical raid boat). A small ship with a bite. Mainly designed as a support vessel for landing operations, but can decimate ships with its rocket turrets. Powerful in close combat but useless in long range.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/q7mdjytdcmx5wa6/KSTRB-900.craft?dl=0

Spoiler

KSTRB-900 (the design is slightly influenced by the STRB-90).

http://imgur.com/a/bEVvP

The ship creates a natural "smoke-screen" around it, if you want to stop creating a smoke screen, just pull up (aka press S down).

Has similar specs compared to the KC-33 since it's built around the same hull.

Armaments: 1 TOW launcher, 4 30mm chain-guns and 2 rocket turrets.

Mass: 46.7 tons

Parts: 236

KC-33. Used as a patrol boat, and as a security guard of sorts in our harbors and navy ports. Best to keep this one away from real combat. Lightly armed an bulky.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/9y6rofsf9lfzh0m/KC-33.craft?dl=0

Spoiler

KC-33

Yes, it is basically a tug-boat with some guns in it.

http://imgur.com/a/iH8si

Top speed: 40 m/s (I tried pretty much everything but was unable make it go any faster than that).

Armaments: 1 Oerlikon Millenium cannon and 2 TOW launchers.

Length: 23.5m

Width: 6.8m

Height: 7m

Mass: 44.0 tons

Parts: 274

Destroyers:

K.S.S Klemson DD-168. An old Destroyer that has been converted into a very powerful fleet support ship that can decimate aircrafts with its long range missiles. Powerful AA armament and superb handling. Can do a lot of damage at close range but is vulnerable to anti ship weapons at long range.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/pbn3fjfi5botxhu/K_S_S Klemson.craft?dl=0

Spoiler

K.S.S Klemson DD-168

A modernized (and Kerbalized) version of a Clemson class destroyer from WW1/WW2. And my new favorite of the bunch.

http://imgur.com/a/3TJSF

It has the best turn rate out of all of the big ships and is super fun to sail around in.

Top speed: 43 m/s

Armament: 3 Oerlikon Millenium turrets, 4 chain-guns and 2 Patriot systems

Length: 70.2m

Width: 6.5m

Height: 16.3m

Mass: 332 tons

Parts: 383

This one has about a little over 20000 units of fuel in it, so range shouldn't be a problem.

A true warship on a budget, having only half the amount of parts compared to our cruisers.

K.S.S Hunter DD-22.

Support crafts: (transports, hovercrafts, landing crafts, etc):

KHC-85. A hovercraft for transporting armored vehicles to the front lines. Can drive on land at full speed.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/jvh8crtuwn8loah/KHC-85.craft?dl=0

Spoiler

KHC-85.

http://imgur.com/a/8OK7h

EDIT: the album above shows the old version, the new one has working maneuvering engines and KAX turboprops as the main fans.

Top speed: 25 m/s (for now)

Armaments: one chain-gun.

Length: 20.7m

Width: 14.3m

Height: 7.3m

Mass: 95 tons

Parts: 416

You can maneuver this around wit the WASD keys when on water, but when close to land i suggest using thrust reversers instead.

As soon as IR gets updated properly, i will update the design.

Submarines:

K-256 Seawolf.

Battleships:

K.S.S Great White II. A giant battleship with lots of primary and secondary guns. Should be able to take care of anything and everything. Main guns might explode at random when firing salvos, BE CAREFUL. Or, just update the weapons.

EDIT: the ship has been broken due to the new update and explodes as soon as the physics kick in.

Spoiler

K.S.S Great White II.

http://imgur.com/a/caGaO

Top speed: 30 m/s

Armament: 9 Abrams turrets, 2 Patriot systems, 6 Millenium turrets and 14 rocket turrets.

Length: 138m

Width: 18m

Height: 25.5m

Mass: 1246 tons

Parts: 600

This one has about 54000 units of fuel in it, so, you will have to sail around for quite a while before you run out.

I made the hull in this way more simple. thanks to that, the hull uses about 1/4 the amount of parts compared to the cruiser hull. It's also more clean and works just as well. It is more heavy tough.

And yes, i simply adore the looks of this ship. that's partly because it's inspired by the IOWA class of battle ship witch is my all time favorite from the real world.

K.S.S Bongo.

EDIT: the ship has been broken due to the new update and explodes as soon as the physics kick in.

K.S.S Nelson

Frigates:

Coming soon.

AEW/AWACS aircraft's:

KSH-230 Finrod: An AWACS aircraft with a huge bomb-bay that is suited for ship and submarine hunting duties.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/p8tu6iwtqted62h/KSH-230%20Finrod.craft?dl=0

Spoiler

http://imgur.com/a/uYfgE

Let's just say that recreating the Nimrod was not an easy task, and i didn't try to make this 100% accurate.

It actually has an AWACS radar in in believe it or not, and it also has: a tracking radar, radome and a tracking ball.

Plus it should have enough weapon space to sink even the largest ships in one flight.

NOTE: just remember not to pull up too hard at high speeds or the wings will brake off.

Top speed: 190 m/s

Stall/takeoff speed: 35-40 m/s

Length:  39.9m

Wingspan: 44.6m

Height: 10.9m

Mass: 90.8 tons

Parts: 364

The Finrod is also very maneuverable and can fly quite a bit before having to refuel making it perfect for recon missions.

KSH-78 Forion: Less capable than the Forion, but still a threat to any ship with its armament of 4 cruise missiles.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/b6nbvnsd5xfv315/KSH-78%20Forion.craft?dl=0

Spoiler

I did something new while designing this one, aka i didn't use even a single MK-3 part in this one. Id say it turned out pretty darn good (main wings look a little off tough).

http://imgur.com/a/R6CRu

Top speed: 160 m/s

Stall speed: 60 m/s

Armament: 4 weapon hard-points under the wings.

Length: 46.6m

Wingspan: 50.9m

Height: 12.3m

Mass: 104 tons

Parts: 283

Tough not as amazing as the Finrod, it does the job.

Support aircraft's (passenger and cargo transports):

Kearjet 24-D: A famous bizjet turned into a carrier aircraft to carry extra crew to and fro between our carriers and bases.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/95vjayoxxjngc6b/Kearjet%2024D.craft?dl=0

Spoiler

(It was a Learjet 24-D replica, ish but i changed its design after i had named it).

http://imgur.com/a/VGC00

Top speed: 180 m/s

Stall speed: 30 m/s

Length: 12.8m

Wingspan: 10.2m

Height: 4.2m

Mass: 10.5 tons

Parts: 70

Its an overall fun thing to fly with pretty amazing STOL capabilities for a bizjet.

Fighters:

KF-188 Fornet: A heavy fighter for multiple tasks ranging from ground attack to air-to-air combat.

(IR): https://www.dropbox.com/s/yztusa10w7xlce5/KF-188%20Fornet%20%28IR%29.craft?dl=0

Spoiler

This aircraft is more like a mix of the F-18, F-16 and the Dravek from Just Cause 3.

It's just your bog o standard interceptor.

NOTE: you will need infernal robotics for the version with folding wings. There is also a version with fixed wings.

http://imgur.com/a/DknAZ

You can land on narrow decks by just folding the wings before you land.

Top speed: 280 m/s

Stall speed: 42 m/s (takeoff speed only 23 m/s tough)

Armament: 2 hidden Vulcans and 6 under-wing hard-points.

Length: 17.5m

Wingspan: 15m

Height: 5.6m

Mass: 20 tons

Parts: 89

The Fornet has all around amazing performance, but is a bit slow in terms of pitch authority tough.

NOTE: the slower you fly with your engines on the more maneuverable you will be.

(non IR): https://www.dropbox.com/s/p0y1eh2m2gosnk7/KF-188%20Fornet.craft?dl=0

KF-44 Searaider:  A light fighter with no radar in it that is mainly used for ground attack.

https://www.dropbox.com/s/nodwmi5p5d1t1fc/KF-44%20Searaider.craft?dl=0

Spoiler

This and the Harbinger are actually very old, i think they where done before 1.0.

http://imgur.com/a/EtsK3

Top speed: 160 m/s

Stall speed: 30 m/s

Armament: 4 Browning's and 2 rocket pods.

Length: 10.8m

Wingspan: 8.9m

Height: 3.6m

Mass: 6.9 tons

Parts: 49

This one is probably the most fun to fly and it has very good maneuverability.

Here is a link to the post in witch i will be posting all my future aircraft's meant for this project.

Battle reports.

Yes, i had a go at staging a little battle in the waters close to KSC.

http://imgur.com/a/UWqmt

In our second battle, we tested out the Avengers capabilities.

http://imgur.com/a/6Knce

There it is for you, my sizeable fleet. I hope you enjoy it :).

Wow, I love the Krucible's shape and bridge. It seems a tad lightly armed for a warship though, than again I don't know much about naval combat.

Do you think your computer could handle two of those fight?  That would be epic! :D

Thanks :). Well, a ship like the Ticonderoga class Guided missile cruiser has about the same amount of weapons: 2 turrets, 2 CIWS:s, 2 Vertical launchers and harpoon launchers (not a 100% sure).

Considering that I got about 30 or even more FPS, I think it could handle that, but it would be quite laggy tough.

I was supposed to show you guys one of the gunboats i made today, it was based on the Swedish STRB 90.

But, the game crashed just before i could save/test it :(. Oh well, better luck tomorrow .

Luckily i saved the hull as a separate craft so i could use it for some other ships as well.

Quess i might as well reveal that one of the other gunboat designs is going to be based on the Rebel corvette from Just Cause 3.

And the third one is going to be something completely custom.

And one design i might make is Gunboat Tango from C&C Renegade. But, a ship with only a single rocket turret doesn't seem like something worth the while.

Thanks :). Well, i don't know either, but there is probably something on the users profile that does that.

The "like this" button in the bottom right does that. They changed the wording from an older version of the forums.

I guess that's the best way to make my vote count double :) Great ship!

Time for an update. Two new ships are added, a gunboat and a corvette.

I also had a go at staging a little battle just outside KSC.

I know, i know, i said i was going to do the carrier next, but i don't really have the time for that now.

But what i can tell you is, that the carrier is going to be based on the H.M.S Illustrious.

Time for the big update.

Here is the carrier.

Just watch the album and you will see why i'm not adding this to the main post.

A smaller design is needed.

But i also don't want a plain runway. I want a carrier that can actually store some aircrafts as well as launch and land them.

So i might end up trying to fix/redesign the Current carrier.

The Hovercraft was looking really nice, then you added cargo and it started looking awesome, very nice work! Is the loading ramp working with hinges or is this visual for the photo shoot?

I also know the headaches of loading craft on the watercraft, I am having my struggles right now with my Island Ferry when loading Rovers!

You might want to check out this thread for some ideas on your aircraft carrier

I have already seen that post before.

The problem is that i raised the bar a bit too high, aka made it too big. Plus more struts might also help.

I would like to make a proper hull for the ship but that would raise the part count by about 400-500.

I'll get around to fixing the carrier once i have a bit more time, just been a bit buzy helping @SaturnianBluewith he's Battle of the Denmark strait project.

Or, if the problem doesn't go away, i will just build a new one.

I also saw this youtube video i forgot it name but he used structural panels to make it it was pretty small and tough the problem i saw with it though was that i could only operate VTOL aircraft

Yep, that's because designs like that eat parts for breakfast, if you try to build a, i dunno, lets say a 120m long carrier. It's propably going to eat 1000 to even 2000 parts. The same happens with wings, but they have the issue of being a bit brittle tough.

A big update is here.

I finally fixed the carrier :D and i also made 4 new aircraft, 3 of them being carrier aircrafts.

It's just amazing that just how much time it can take to just update the post.

Me: alright let's finally update the post, shouldn't take too long . and there it is, another 4-5 hours wasted . Well, there goes my evening plans, oh well.

It's also amazing that just how much i enjoy writing stuff here on the forums :), considering that writing in general is one of my least favorite things to do.

I also really, really like that Fornet plane for some weird reason.

Thanks :).

The carrier has 937 parts in it. I have also listed it on the main post in the carriers description.
