Atmospheric Flight feels weird

the issue that everyone seems to miss is that turning in ksp is completely unrealistic even with FAR. bank a plane 45 degrees and it should be turning, but still flies striaght. people think that it's normal to just pitch up but that just adds more drag.

No, that bit was mentioned upthread.

If you built a real plane using the parts available in the SPH (flat boards, straight tubes, engines and control surfaces), and stuck them together into a shape typical of the common player, it would behave very similarly.

To make a Kerbal plane fly like a real plane, you've gotta tweak a lot of small things like the dihedral and lift on the wings in level flight using the advanced design tools.  The sort of thing a whole team of real life engineers deal with using off the shelf parts from even more teams of engineers.

bank a plane at 45 degrees, with an AoA of zero, and it won't turn.

Add some incidence to your wings, and it will turn as you bank. Also don't expect it to handle like a censa when you're going mach 3 at 0.01 atmospheres... that's a lot of momentum and very little air to change it. You wouldn't expect your plane to handle like that at 69 km would you?

Give the wings some incidence, keep the craft under 2km, and observe how much more it flies like you'd expect it to fly.
