HG-5 Satellites not appearing to work

Hi All,

I'm relatively new to the sim but I've been able to launch a couple 'satellites' which I built in Career mode within a 2.5m Storage Bay.

My Design is as such: 
2x HG-5 Antenna, Extended confirmed
4x Z-200 Battery Packs
8x OX-STAT Solar Panels
RCS Thrusters and some Mono fuel

 

I've put them in LKO as well as Minmus high polar orbit. When I switch to CommNet Network on the map view, I don't see any lines from any of them going anywhere, either to any other ship or back to KSC DSN's. 

Range / DSN Modifier is 1.0, Extra groundstations on/off doesn't change it. Antennas list as Extended, Idle, 5.0M. Level 2 Tracking station.

Would these designs work, am I doing something wrong?

 

This is a couple in LKO but I have one at Minmus as well with the same results.

How did you launch them and what are you using for a probe core? I see the red "no probe control" icon in the second picture.

Hi Biggen,

 

I launched them with an OKTO module. But each service bay is now separated from the core which has been deleted/decomissioned. So I don't have a probe core on each of these satellites, it's just a Service Bay, Antennas, Batteries, and Solar Panels.

Does it need to have a probe core on it in order to function as a relay sat?
