  1. Thanks again for the replies. One last question because I'm starting to doubt myself: should the total velocity of your rocket be as close as possible to terminal velocity, or just the vertical part of your velocity?
  2. Thanks for the replies. If I read you guys correctly, it's still the optimal speed, but it's much harder to reach, so you might as well go with as fast as possible. In that case, I'll probably still write the script. it shouldn't be more than 50 lines and I'm interested how much it'll actually save in terms of delta-v.
  3. Hi there guys, I'm trying to create a generalised kOS takeoff script. I'm still fiddling around with ascent profiles, but I'm a bit at a loss as how to handle the velocity. I remember that back in the day, there was some discussion about optimal velocities for kerbal ascent, but I don't remember whether or not there eventually came a consensus on this. Some argued that you should try to stick as closely as possible to the terminal velocity, since it should minimize losses due to gravity and atmospheric drag. Since it'd be fairly trivial to write a script which dynamically keeps a rocket at terminal velocity, I was wondering whether this is still thought to be the case. Cheers
  4. Because jet engines reach ridiculously high RPMs, which cause very high pitches, not low ones. Seriously: they do sound like that: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sNi5FzB4N9c https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ratUZAwM1sQ
  5. It seems to be the issue that your CoT isn't in line with your CoM enough, which creates a lot of torque.
  6. Well, because the lift is further further in front than it should be, it creates a bigger moment-arm, which makes it so that the force of the lift should be able to hold the rocket pointed up further than it should.
  7. Damn. That explains why my fairinged rockets make their gravity turns much slower than I would expect them to.
  8. I'm actually writing a kOS autolaunch script at the moment, so I'm quite interested in the answer to this question. My experiences so far: gravity turn is the key. When you reach about 100 m/s, turn over 10ish degrees to the east and turn off your SAS. Let the rocket get to 300 m/s and allow it to turn on it's own. It should have about a 45 degree angle at 10 kilometres. At around 12 to 15 km, start gaining speed, and a lot of it. You want a pretty shallow trajectory, so you can get plenty of speed before reaching apoapsis. That's as far as I've gotten. If anyone can explain more on the subject, or even prove me wrong, please do so.
  9. Hi there. Thanks for the reply! It's the following error message: Problem signature: Problem Event Name: APPCRASH Application Name: ckan(1).exe Application Version: 0.0.0.0 Application Timestamp: 55763180 Fault Module Name: clr.dll Fault Module Version: 4.0.30319.17929 Fault Module Timestamp: 4ffa59b1 Exception Code: c0000005 Exception Offset: 0000000000006f66 OS Version: 6.1.7601.2.1.0.256.1 Locale ID: 1033 Additional Information 1: aa9d Additional Information 2: aa9d8a1c314893857c7c9558cd1e4555 Additional Information 3: 7678 Additional Information 4: 7678b40e8e7a6eda4e2f769d9d267f14
  10. Hi mod team! I have been using your mod with great pleasure. However, I was wondering if you guys could update one error: when you try to copy a file, but cannot, due to lack of memory, it gives a very unhelpful error message.
  11. Hi there. Thanks for the response. I indeed was missing the module manager. Redownloaded, added it. Worked perfectly. Thanks again mate.
  12. Hi there! Amazing mod, thanks for maintaining it. However, I seem to have the missing scale slider bug. I found in the old thread that it's due to other mods. I was wondering if it's known which mods do this, and how to fix this nowadays. Other mods installed: HullcamVDS, kOS, Planetshine, RCSbuildaid, RemoteTech and Scatterer.
  13. So, a few dozens pages back, I noted that I get an error with CKan on running the .exe. This hasn't changed over the last few versions. Running Win 7, latest version of Ckan, .net 4.5 installed, etc, etc. I cannot seem to get any further info on why it crashes, apart from what I'd written the last time and the error seems to be the same one.
  14. Pretty much what they said above. You could look at CupecakeLander's creations. He (or she? don't know tbh) is quite amazing at making vtols and dropships.
  15. I fixed my issue: the module manager file wasn't copied for some reason. Adding that fixed stuff.
  16. Doesn't seem to be a mod issue in my case. I removed all other mods from my install and freshly downloaded RemoteTech and it still doesn't work. I'll try to clean-reinstall KSP tomorrow and see if that fixes it. EDIT: Found something which may be co-morbid with my other issues: Remote Tech parts don't show up in my tech tree in carreer mode. For example I have unlocked the stayputnick, but didn't get the Reflectron DP-10.
  17. Do you think this would've be improved in any useful way by using a reverse gravity assist using one (or more) of Jool's moons, or would it not change speed at periapsis significantly?
  18. So, I have an issue with this. I don't want to make a bug report out of it, because it's probably a local issue, but I was hoping someone here may be able to help me. I have a sandbox game I want to go 'proper' with, ie: actually play out a actual space program with, but Remote Tech isn't working for me. Latest version (1.7.6) installed, all components load, all dishes there, all view options in map screen are there, but the actual remote tech functionality doesn't work: I can still control probes without any dishes/antennae on them, I cannot see connections between satellites, or the cone of dishes and all other important stuff. Is this something which is known to happen, and if so: how can I fix it? Other installed mods: Kerbal engineer Redux Intake Build Aid Transfer Window Planner Kerbal Alarm Clock kerbal OS Stage Recovery aid RCS Build Aid EDIT: forgot ship Manifest.
  19. Strange... I thought I had done so, but apparently not? Let's test it... EDIT: That seems to have broken it even more. Let's see if a reinstall of .Net works. EDIT 2: Nope. It now just dies instantly when trying to start CKAN. 20. Hey there. I tried searching for this error, but found zilch. Whenever I click on a mod to mark it for installation in the gui (1.6.22), it gives the following error message: See the end of this message for details on invoking just-in-time (JIT) debugging instead of this dialog box. ************** Exception Text ************** System.TypeLoadException: Could not load type 'System.Runtime.CompilerServices.IAsyncStateMachine' from assembly 'mscorlib, 21. Yeah. I have had this as well with a few planes. Never could figure out for the live of me what causes it though. That's not really the issue. That wouldn't cause the aircraft to pull to the right consistently.
  22. That should be shallow enough to work. What is the rest of your procedure? Have you tried flaring the nose at much as possible during the initial descent to bleed off speed and stay higher up? That alone was enough for me to not burn up (at least from Kerbin orbits).
  23. In my experience, you can be pretty aggressive with the reentering as of 1.02. What kind of height/speeds are you reentering with? What is you periapsis when doing so?
  24. Hey there guys, I was working on a new spaceplane, and while it worked fine in the lower atmosphere, it got it's .... wrecked at 15ish clicks, when assymetric flameouts occurred and the craft would spin wildly out of control. I thought these things were 'fixed' in 1.0. Anyone knows how this may have happened? EDIT: Here's the ship file. http://pastebin.com/5g4rprHp
