  1. Some of you may have heard of the planet mod Gameslinx's Planet Overhaul by @Gameslinx. Personally, I never got to take a proper look at GPO's planets and moons, but it sounds pretty cool. Four new habitable worlds and a beautiful protostar? Count me in, that is if... it were to work properly. I have heard that GPO no longer works on the latest version of Kopernicus. I tried it out anyway on my copy of KSP 1.8.1, with Kopernicus and KittopiaTech 1.8.1-1 with Beyond Home installed. I modified Gaia's config to make sure that it wouldn't become the homeworld and I edited its moons' orbital properties to make sure that it orbits Gaia and not a renamed Kerbin with Gaia's properties. I also reparented Dread, Dres' GPO moon, around Olu'um on the opposite side of Telos' orbit. And it still didn't work. I then temporarily deleted my save and Beyond Home, and it failed to load when it was loading one of its Scatterer sunflares. Now I want to know; why does this wonderful mod no longer work with KSP 1.8.1 and Kopernicus 1.8.1-1? Did something change with Kopernicus in the versions after GPO's last update? Did something required in GPO's supported Kopernicus versions get removed in the newer versions? If anyone can tell me why Gameslinx's Planet Overhaul no longer works on KSP 1.8.1, please inform me. Any support is greatly appreciated.
  2. Background: I have made several attempts to make planets with Kopernicus, some of them being a failure, others being successful. In this case, I made a habitable super-Kerbin called "Hallow". As of now, its radius is 1000 km with an extremely thick atmosphere capping off at 100 km above sea level. For external textures I modified an 8k map of Mars to make an oceanic color map, a height map and a normal map all using GIMP and its normal map and height map plugins. The config itself uses data from Beyond Home by @Gameslinx and The World Beyond by @TheProtagonists combined with basic data from Kopernicus Examples in order to make a proper config file The PQSMods section has some data from Beyond Home's Rhode, but adjusted to fit the right directory. It also has a HeightColorMap parser, assigning different shades of yellow, light khaki and white to a specific terrain height. My copy of KSP 1.8.1 loads properly without any issue, and I check Hallow in the Tracking Station to find it loading properly and the surface is fine except it's completely blue. Rebuilding the ScaledSpace textures via KittopiaTech fixed this, giving it its proper surface. However, I wanted a bit more, which is why I have come here to ask several questions: 1. How do you properly make an ocean planet that initially loads looking like it should? 2. What effect the parameters of ScaledSpace and PQSMods do? 3. How do you increase the altitude of ScaledSpace's stock atmospheric rim (so the stock atmosphere looks thicker and taller) 4. How do you increase the resolution of a planet's surface like in Beyond Home? (The surface of planets like Rhode, Scaythe, Ash and Armstrong look incredibly detailed, how do you do that?) And just so this topic doesn't go unnoticed, I'm tagging other great mod makers and developers here; paging @Galileo, @Sigma88, @Poodmund and @The White Guardian. If there are any mistakes or anything vague, please inform me. Thanks! 3. I've had enough of working in the dark. For those of you who might have seen me on the KSP and KerbalAcademy subreddit, I am the one guy there that loves SSTO's and spaceplanes. I have gotten tired of asking there because I might be seen as some idiot (which I might not be). I have begun to focus my attention to making planets of my own using Kopernicus and KittopiaTech. I tried to make planets based on the basic tutorials made by TheWhiteGuardian to no avail, as my planets either take KSP forever to load, don't load in general, or load up but look like smooth black or blue spheres. Because of this, I have resorted to asking the KSP forums this question: Can anyone give me a crash course on everything about Kopernicus and how to make a good planet with it? I want to know which parser and which line of code does which, such as the PQSMods or the Ocean and Atmosphere parsers. I want to know what each and every line does in a Kopernicus config. I want to know how to make good colour, height, normal and biome maps that function correctly when the planet is loaded. I want to learn how to give a terrestrial planet *stock* clouds like Beyond Home's gas giant Gateway and how to make functioning binary planets like in Other Worlds Reboot's Prima and Secunda system. I want to know how to create a good planet with Kopernicus (and maybe even KittopiaTech). Thank you to anyone who is reading this forum post as I want to create working planets (that I might release as a planet pack if it looks good enough). All the help that I can get is greatly appreciated! -CrackersAndChips, rookie Kopernicus user
