    One thing,

I noticed most of your twin-Juno dropships have 2 sparks for rocket assist, while mine has only one. Am I likely to regret this? One seems enough for precision hover, but I'm worried about emergency situations in which one Spark simply isn't enough power.

I think you'll be alright, but if in doubt test.

    Hi!

This is my first ever mission report. Here, my goal is to fly a small drop-ship craft to the south pole of Kerbin. As it doesn't have enough range to fly all at once, I'll be refueling it along the way.

The idea behind this mission was that I wanted to travel across Kerbin, but rovers were too slow, and large aircraft would just zip over all the interesting stuff at high speed and not be able to enjoy the view.

So, here is the ship I will use to fly this mission - presenting, the Knat!

    pub?w=1990&h=1180

The Knat has two Juno engines on rotating side pods, and a Spark engine on the underside for a rapid burst of precisely throttled thrust when I need it, such as for landing.

There is a clamp-o-tron jr on the back for refueling or carrying.

The engine pods can rotate from vertical to forward, allowing minimzation of body drag and letting the Knat reach speeds of up to 220 meters per second.

Thanks to the Spark engine and the vehicle's small size, the Knat is capable of hovering with reasonable precision, for landing on helipads or on ships.

    Mods installed:

I have Kerbin Side Remastered and a few other KK things, both to visit and so I have a specific destination to navigate to at the south pole.

In my next post, I'll either set off from the KSC or show my refueling vehicle, which currently needs a little work.

Oh, and this design is VERY heavily inspired by (as in nearly copied from):

Good luck with your mission. God speed!

how do you control all the ships at the same time, i thought they might be one at first with a giant offset to make it appear like they are flying on their own but they change altitude and spin on their own axis too.

    how do you do it?

also yet another great vid cupcake!

Thanks! There's a mod called Burn Together which lets you pilot multiple vessels at once.

One more question: How do you land efficently when there is no atmoshere? I can't seem to replicate how you did it in the Maelstrom showcase video.

You basically have to forget about the wings and land it as though you're landing a rocket.

  5. Hi folks,

I'm just in the process of organising the OP. The format will be similar to the old method I used, the only difference is I'll be relying more on instructional videos rather then text if a craft needs specific information. All of my current craft are available to download via the central repository. In the weeks ahead I'll be working backwards and creating pages for my latest designs. If you have any questions in the meantime please feel free to drop me a line.

    All the best.

I loaded this craft file up in KSP 1.9 and all the part clipping had undone itself. I tried re-downloading the file, and that didn't help. I tried to fix it and clip everything back together, but I can't get it to not be back-heavy.

The same thing happened with the Vortex.

I’m afraid this craft and the Vortex aren’t compatible with the latest version as the size of Round 8 tanks has been increased. My latest SSTO design is the Akula which will work with 1.9. The link can be found in the video description.

    All the best.

That plane at the beginning has to be one of the most elegant designs I have ever seen in KSP. Very simple, but no else builds like that.

Question: at 2:00 you are landing on a flying platform. How do you pull this off?  Do you launch them together, then take off and land back on it?

Thanks! Glad you like the design. :)

In answer to your question the plane and carrier launch together, I then separate and film the landing.

    All the best.
