  1. i had a Paella Kerman at one point, couldn't look at the name without getting slightly hungry.
  2. so, it's too late to suggest "Space Bus"?
  3. -18:24...i wonder if i can catch this just before i have to leave for the weekend. would be a nice to see a cool thing before going on a six hour drive.
  4. 712 MB, with ATM i can roughly double that before i run into stability issues.
  5. months after the fact, finally got around to starting my 1.0 game. it's good to be back. selected samples: never realized this thing was so big from the screenshots. i guessed that i landed within a few hundred meters of it but it was actually 2.5 km away, and as tall as a house. i used almost exactly one full EVA tank on the round trip. transfer burn to Moho coincided almost exactly with this brief eclipse. identical copy of the same spacecraft on a sun skimming mission. still getting used to the idea that things can actually absorb heat in this game, now; didn't install any radiators. by carefully angling the spacecraft i brought the thermal flux under control for the final approach. it got within about 520,000 km before burning up, and completed all science objectives.
  6. 2x Nvidia GTX 660s here. Come to think of it I haven't run an AMD card in at least 3 years, not because i don't like them them but because it's just the way the wind happened to be blowing in the GPU world at the time, and pretty much still is.
  7. that's for the version of KSP you're playing on, and doesn't have anything to do with your OS architecture. it's not a stupid question, it's very confusing.
  8. no, that's definitely not practical. i agree that it would be nice to make the satellites do something after you've launched them, and i hope that's looked into closely for future updates in the stock game, but using RT for that is like setting your house on fire because you're cold. new players already have to take a high school course in newtonian mechanics just to understand how to do certain essential things in KSP, if we have to give them primers on the nuances of constructing commsat constellations too then i think we'll be stretching it with the average person.
  9. i couldn't tell if this was really happening or if i was imagining things.
  10. who'd think that these things would actually fly? performance isn't too bad, i've built planes that were more maneuverable but others far less so. issues are an extreme lack of yaw authority when the engines are throttled down making for tense landings, requiring those large canards as vertical stabilizers, and also that the craft has absurdly low drag, which is great for acceleration but also means you can be on final landing approach at sea level and still going mach 1.
  11. well, most people don't make their shuttles 2,000 tons.
  12. interesting to see that the Mun is now ranked 9. very handy information, lets me know where to start spending my mid-game dv.
  13. this is the infamous targa loading bug that affects KSP and isn't related to SPR.
  14. you'll have to check the MM change log for those details. however, as far as i know, no new version of MM of late has been incompatible with an old one. 2.5.4 works just the same with 0.90 as 2.5.[1,2,3] did with 0.25.
  15. i take my shuttle lessons from real life - that is, it's not very safe to fly and kind of pain in the ass to operate in general.
  16. i'm so glad this is being expanded, ever since i first got it this has been one of my top mods. the new update is very substantial and well-made.
  17. i don't think the Mk 3 parts are unreasonably disappointing, and i consider it a boon that they're compatible with B9 HL because it helps to enforce a standard, and if you can get everyone to agree on a standard it makes mod development much easier. by comparison the B9 Mk. 2 and stock Mk. 2 aren't compatible, and that's annoying to me. overall i'm happy to see new and, in my opinion, superior parts, since C7's parts, some of great and some of poor quality, were integrated into stock somewhere around 0.14 and for so many versions, since even before i started playing KSP, the choice was to either suck it down and use the bizarre half-baked assortment of spaceplane parts, or try to mod your game until it's tolerable. on the other hand i am annoyed at the lack of a Mk. 3 IVA - at this point the lack of squad IVAs has pretty much become a community joke, except that it's a joke that definitely doesn't get funnier in the retelling. i'll accept without reservation that IVAs are complex and time-consuming to model and make functional, but at the same time there are enough examples of modders working for zero material remuneration making very high quality IVAs, many times as patches for Squad parts, and they don't seem to be having too much problem doing that in their free time, let alone punching the clock on a 40-hour week at Squad. i still think Squad are doing a great deal of good work for a small team, but KSP sometimes feels like starting a 500 piece puzzle and then realizing at the very end that you have 497 pieces.
  18. ...you took a photograph of your monitor? that's pretty funny.
  19. well, that's awesome. looking forward to the release.
  20. it also has always disappointed me that kerbol bodies are unable to cast shadows, especially since kerbin gets so many solar eclipses and it would be really cool to see the ambient light drop dramatically when it happens. hoping someone (rbay) cooks up a good way to do this.
  21. memory usage will usually get you long before any other instabilities creep in from modding. i've had some weirdness and crashes that i've tracked back to mods, but overall i tend to spend 30 minutes memory-managing my GameData for every 1 minute i spend investigating other crashes.
  22. maybe i'm unorthodox in this but whenever i feel that part values are unbalanced i just edit the .cfgs to what i think is fair.
  23. i agree that there is very poor justification ever to close a whole thread (so long as its premise contains meaningful content) on the basis of the actions of individual posters, or the course the thread it taking. the key to moderation is contained in the word - moderation - and it's a more favorable outcome for the community if derailed discussion is guided by a firm but benevolent hand rather than nuked by fiat.
