  1. I am also getting crashes on OSX 10.10. Using MAcbook Pro 2014 model w/ 16 gb memory. I've noticed them happening almost always when I go from launch to revert to vehicle assembly. I haven't been able to play more than 30 minutes without a crash. Very disappointing.
  2. Thank heaven I can now avoid all the bureaucracy involved in contracts and explore all the new planets and hidden easter eggs in the Kerbol system this release provides ... oh wait ...
  3. Having been a KSP fan for more than 18 months now I simply can't wait for ver .24 and all the money making grinding ensconced in contracts and budgets. Finally (!!) I can get away from the tedium of exploring new places, finding the sunken pyramids of Mars, or the Stonehenge monuments in the Jool system or the Neil Armstrong monument on the Mun and devote my time to what we space jockeys like best - grinding away the evening trying to make a few bucks so I can but a new reaction thruster. YES!!! Now that the KSP team has made it much easier to achieve orbit I no longer need to worry so much about things like skill or orbital mechanics (seriously???!! What was up with that?? ) and now I can just spend my time making Excel spreadsheets in order to optimize and maximize the budgetary requirements involved in launching a spaceplane to the Tracking Station. Thanks KSP team and keep up the great work! Can I ask that you provide "Union Negotiations" in .25 and make .26 the "Bean Counter Edition" ?? Pretty please ???
  4. I find the "Science" to be nothing more than a grind. The aspect that I most like about KSP (and suspect this is true for most players) is the creation of (sometimes wacky) ships to do things and go places. How do I design a ship to go to Eve? How to design one to land there and come back? How do I make an SSTO? How can I get that SSTO to Laythe? And so on ... That's the great and most fun aspect of KSP- designing stuff (and sometimes watching your designed stuff blow up - but not so much). Going someplace and clicking on a "science-thingy" and getting points for it is kind of an anti-climax - the fun was in getting there successfully in the first place. I would much rather see the devs develop more interesting and challenging places to go with more things to see and puzzles to solve - like the SSTV Duna signal - remember how much interest and threads that generated? Those sort of things are fun and challenging but clicking on a barometer (or goo) for a dozen missions in order to get enough points for a better engine is, imho, just a grind.
  5. He graduated suma cun laude from Harvard University and has a PhD in theoretical physics. When you are half as educated or as honored you may well be qualified to comment on his intelligence or the validity of his ideas but that day is not today.
  6. You are wrong. I have seen it and so have many others. It is most definitely not "optically impossible. That's just nonsense. Difficult yes because of the brightness but the brightness of Jupiter varies with distance from the earth /sun by an entire order of magnitude. All it takes is sharp vision and the right conditions (clear, dark skies away from light pollution, knowing where the moons will be at max elongation, jupiter at lowest magnitude) The magnitudes of both the planet and the moons (ganymede and callisto) as well as the separation (a third of our moon's diameter) make it optically possible. I know, I've seen them many times on a dark evening and pointed it out to others as well. Think what you will but I have the experience. P.S. There are quite a few reports of visually observing jupiter's moons available on reputable astronomy blogs on the web. Just because you haven't seen or done something hardly makes it impossible. Period.
  7. Is there some what to tell which mode (air or closed) I'm in without right clicking the engine? I don't seem to see any visual or aural feedback of that - am I missing something?
  8. Getting program hangs when leaving the VAB and SAB (OSX version) . I have a Hyperedit mod installed - will remove that and see if it helps. EDIT: Remover hyperedit add-on. Seems to help - so far
  9. You will not see any moons without a telescope. Not in fact true - when I was younger and an amateur astronomer I could regularly see Ganymede and Castillo on a clear dark night at max elongation. You have to live outside of a city and have pretty good vision and a map of when the moons will be at max elongation from the planet (sky and telescope used to have such maps).
  10. It's Thunderdum! Two Kerbals go in and only one comes out!
  11. I'm really surprised at he amount of griefing I'm seeing on the boards lately. I've been playing the game for a year and love what Squad has done. Yes there are some annoying glitches but the fact is that I have received more enjoyment from this game than any other since half-life. And frankly I can play KSP over and over as I get new ideas or try to duplicate someone else's - so vastly better than any half-life kind of game. Far more creative. Some people are just Debbie Downers and live to complain and ruin the fun for everyone else I really wish the big forum Poo-Bah would create a "I want to complain" sub-forum so that all complaint threads could be moved there by mods and all the complainers would have a place to share with each other and everyone else could just ignore it and enjoy the game.
  12. Gas Planet Two, I christen thee: Rulaids
  13. This is all well and good for .23 but what I want to know is what is holding up the release of .24 ! ? Are the Devs slacking ? Are they on Christmas holiday? .23 is finally getting released but we have heard absolutely nothing about .24 and I for one demand the truth!
  14. With enough Space Tape and Space Glue anything is possible
  15. If you carry it as liquid or ice then you can use it as radiation shielding
  16. No they can't. They can't because, unlike KSP, real life science takes time and effort in which to become proficient. I would estimate that if you wish to have an "intimate relationship and knowledge of radio transmission, because I'll be designing a system from scratch." it would take 200 - 300 hours of study in order to begin to accomplish your goal. Several people have recommended books to you - I might also recommend the latest version of "The Radio Amateurs Handbook". There are no "tips or tricks" which can be relayed to you to accomplish your goal other than providing you with source material with which you can study. In order to do that you will need roughly a Masters (or possibly a Bachelors if you are extremely bright) in Electrical Engineering requiring 4-6 years of study. Attempting to to what you wish without such an education is just a bit ... unrealistic would be a nice word to use.
  17. Since it takes more energy to break down the water than you can get from the products (see Second Law of thermodynamics) the idea is impractical. You just end up losing energy. If you had a "large quantity of electricity available" it would actually be more efficient to just heat up the water with the original electricity.
  18. You know - If you put seats on those Mainsails and put Kerbals in them you'd have the biggest, neatest Ferris Wheel in history! (Also recommend using Avaition Lights mod on the Ferris Wheel )
