I don't doubt that they are interesting to you. I prefer to base my reality (and my statements) on known scientific facts rather then unnamed "alternate theories". But then again I don't believe in such things as astrology, homeothapy or the tooth fairy and I think that makes me a more, rather than less, interesting person to be around.

It's backed by numerous observations of far away-galaxies. It is only a theory in the sense that there is a "theory of Gravity". If you are aware of any legitimate alternate explanations published in a scientific journal I'd be interested in seeing such a link.

Is the Oort cloud real?
JebidiahsBigSister replied to Pugspaceprogram's topic in Science & Spaceflight
The link clearly says "The region can be subdivided into a spherical outer Oort cloud of 20,000–50,000 AU (0.32–0.79 ly)," . Yes, there is an outer reagion that extends further however the Oort cloud is currently taken to be as close as .32 ly away - you have to read the entire article and not just the bits that you want. -
Is the Oort cloud real?
JebidiahsBigSister replied to Pugspaceprogram's topic in Science & Spaceflight
No It's not -
That's fantastic and thank you for explaining the difference between SAS and something like a reaction wheel but it has nothing to do with this thread in which a good many people have reported that SAS is behaving a bit wobbly - and it still is unless I "compensate" by putting a silly amount of SAS - opps I mean reaction wheels - on my larger ships.

I've pretty much run out of science fiction movies
JebidiahsBigSister replied to mushroomman's topic in The Lounge
I very much second that - it's a classic - and very much like the kind of thing the O.P. was asking about. Also - Asmith89 - WTF, man? It sounds like you ran a non-Romance language into Google translate. -
Cassini Gets New Views of Titan's Land of Lakes
JebidiahsBigSister replied to czokletmuss's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Yup - it's about -289 Fahrenheit or so there now so we're looking at methane lakes. Earth was initially formed with a methane atmosphere and had a thriving biosphere based on methane about 3 billion years ago - but it was much warmer than Titan is now. But good new Titan! About 5 billion years from now the Sun will grow in size and luminosity (and stay that way for a couple/few billion years) so much that Titan will become Earth-like in temperature so we probably should start planting Monoliths or something. -
Is the Oort cloud real?
JebidiahsBigSister replied to Pugspaceprogram's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Yeah? Well your Oort cloud is so old that the website it uses to hook up is called "Carbon Dating" -
Question on Dres Encounter
JebidiahsBigSister replied to toomuchbrew's topic in KSP1 Gameplay Questions and Tutorials
I'd never considered that before but I can visualize what you are talking about - good point ! -
A Step Closer To The Alcubierre Drive!
JebidiahsBigSister replied to Omicron314's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Some sort of frequency discrimination? As I understand it (?) cosmic and/or galactic background noise peaks in certain bands of frequencies. Wouldn't a low powered transmission be discernible if not in the same frequencies and the background frequencies were filtered out? Some sort of statistical analysis ? -

That's an amazing technique with frankly an amazing result from such a small scope. I wonder if a 12 inch could possibly even resolve exoplanets (as dots of course) using some variant of that technique with appropriate blocking of the central star. -
Why are more people Right-handed than Left-handed?
JebidiahsBigSister replied to ZedNova's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Plus the mirrored versions will all have goatees and be evil. -
Purely Conjectural Hypothesis
JebidiahsBigSister replied to Tharios's topic in Science & Spaceflight
One of the very first steps in wisdom is in knowing how much you really do not know. As a grocery stocker with a GED would you be comfortable going to your local hospital and giving advice on your latest ideas about neurosurgery to the head of that department? How about going to Washington and giving your ideas to some lawyer on how to best argue the latest Supreme Court case? No? At least I hope not. Then why are you so comfortable giving your latest thoughts on Particle Physics which require one to have a minimum of an eight year University education before one is even thought of seriously in professional circles? Tharios, everyone in the U.S. is certainly entitled to an opinion but not all opinions are of equal worth. When K^2 mentions the obvious shortfalls (well obvious to someone with more of a Physics education than I) in your thoughts, you should be grateful and thoughtful rather than showing your ire about it. -

i have played a lot of KSP, i haven't done any testing. @Dangerous_Bean - Did you uncheck the option in your game that sends anonymous info to Squad? No? Then you've done testing. Also any of your sixty-some some posts that described something that went wrong with your game or something that you liked - contributed to the testing effort. @dirk - your "understanding" is the actual problem , not squad's efforts or marketing. Good luck to you anyways though. -

JebidiahsBigSister replied to dlrk's topic in KSP1 Suggestions & Development Discussion
Seriously, dirk ?????? So when Microsoft Windows went from version 3.1 to 95 then you figure there must have been 91.9 previous versions in between ?? Perhaps you didn't understand what an alpha release meant prior to purchasing the game? It means that you are a tester. It means that you and I actually paid money to be testers of this game (which I not only find to be an amazing business model but, in this case at least, a really fun and enjoyable opportunity) to make it better for the other players down the road. What we get in return is hours( errr... days??? months ???) of enjoyment as well as plenty of bugs and changes. It's understandable that you would be disappointed if you didn't actually understand what an 'alpha' release was but that's hardly the developer's fault as it was clearly stated. -

JebidiahsBigSister replied to Technical Ben's topic in Science & Spaceflight
No, really - that's quite a nice shot! What size scope did you use and what kind of camera? Also to ZRM: Same comments - Wow! Same questions if you don't mind - very curious. Your shot looks like it had to be from a 10 - 12" scope I'm guessing?? -

So, how about Eve's new incline?
JebidiahsBigSister replied to TheCanadianVendingMachine's topic in KSP1 Discussion
I also noticed that some of eccentricities of some of the planets seem to have been possibly changed (??) as well?. It seemed that Moho was possibly in a more eccentric orbit and that there was more variation in Kerbal-Duna distances perhaps? All in all, if so, I think it's a great idea. More realistic -

Probably because no one would be silly enough to assume that one couldn't go from version .2x to .9x in one single leap. It;s not a law you know. How's that for a reason? -

A Step Closer To The Alcubierre Drive!
JebidiahsBigSister replied to Omicron314's topic in Science & Spaceflight
YOu do realize that a laser and "radio" are essentially the same thing, electromagnetic transmissions, don't you? The only essential difference between the two is the coherency of the laser which results in a tighter beam. A laser is essentially a very tight beamed radio transmission on a much (much!) higher frequency. -
A Step Closer To The Alcubierre Drive!
JebidiahsBigSister replied to Omicron314's topic in Science & Spaceflight
Sorry, but no, you have to have serious FTL capabilities to even consider conquering a whole galaxy You're making an incredible amount of assumptions, none of which you have offered any proof (and in fact most are impossible to prove in our day and age). You have an opinion. The Phds and great minds behind such concepts as The Fermi Paradox and Generation ships have other opinions. The difference between yours and theirs is that they have an enormous amount of education behind their opinion, hence it is a more informed opinion so it makes sense to me to stand behind the more informed ideas. -
That.. that's beautiful Thank you so much ! I'm going to tweak things a bit then post the craft files in the Spacecraft exchange section . I think I'm going to make a video and recreate the 2001 docking scene in KSP first.

They are the Aviation Lights addon by BigNose. They work beautifully, are nicely compact and can give a great look to your ship. They are for lighting up your ship in the dark - not for lighting something in the distance up like the regular ksp lights
