  1. Didn't people who bought into early access for Prison Architect get to design their own prisoner, complete with name and backstory? No reason a KSPer couldn't have submitted Jeb. Poor Jeb... I wonder what he's in for? Destruction of government property?
  2. The vast majority of the people are still alive. Unfortunately, the same can not be said of the kerbals...
  3. That's the way I usually use, but you can also do it from the tracking station. With the vessel selected from the list, click on the information button "i", then click the orange bar with the name of the vessel in it. Useful for times when you only want to rename a vessel without actually having to wait for it to load.
  4. I tend to give my craft sequential numbers and then a description of their purpose. This is ususally just for the VAB saves though, once they're actually in space I'll rename them to something more creative.
  5. Not roleplaying. Attempting to portray an extreme facepalm moment in a humorous light. Thank you for your understanding.
  6. For Sale: One (1) probe mother ship "AAS-057 Jool Odyssey", complete with six (6) ion-powered orbital probes. Interplanetary stage features nuclear propulsion with sufficient tankage to provide 4,351 m/s delta V, with excellent flight dynamics and thermal characteristics. The six identical unmanned probes (new and in excellent condition) feature a full set of scientific instrumentation, including SCANSAT Altimetry and Multispectral Sensors, and are ion powered for an additional 3,020 m/s dV for your Jool exploratory needs. New, this 331 part beauty would run you 550,863.6 funds on the launchpad, but we are selling it for 250,000, O.B.O. Current location: high Jool orbit. Antennas not included.
  7. The worst thing about those kinds of krashes is that they are easily replicated, and yet Squad refuses to release a fix! I know there are workarounds, but come on!
  8. This is because, unlike the Mun around Kerbin, the Moon does not orbit the Earth in the same plane as the Earth's equator, meaning that if you want to launch into the same plane as the moon's orbit, you only have a short launch window each day as the Moon crosses the equator. Minmus would actually be a better analog for the Moon in this case. Imagine trying to launch directly from KSC into an LKO co-planar with Minmus' orbit. In KSC terms, you'd have to launch approximately when Minmus' ascending or descending node passes over the KSC, and boost slightly north or south of due east. The whole thing would get even more complex if your launch site wasn't on the equator. Of course, all that assumes that you're trying to launch into an orbit that avoids any plane changes later on. Wikipedia has a great explanation of the moon's orbit here: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orbit_of_the_Moon
  9. Assuming the same lighting conditions, a human body would freeze faster on the surface of the moon ONLY if it was actually in significant contact with the surface of the moon, because then conduction is also taking place. If not, it is in a vacuum whether it is 300mm or 300km from the surface.
  10. I always thought Gus Kerman was a reference to Mercury / Apollo astronaut Gus Grissom and that, "We hope nothing catches fire while he's here," refers to the way he died, in the Apollo 1 fire.
  11. I believe that's a reference to Walter White from Breaking Bad. This guy:
  12. Nice thread. Here's some random stuff from me: 1. In map view, if you click on the indicator for an apsis, the display showing the altitude will stay on. Great while fine tuning maneuver nodes. 2. If your spaceplane flies fine, but you can only get it to take off by launching off the end of the runway, have a look at the placement of your rear landing gear. Having it too far behind your center of mass will keep the plane from rotating at any speed. 3. Once you've designed a spaceplane that can reach orbit, drain it of almost all fuel and fly a circuit around KSP. No point in achieving orbit if the weight distribution with empty tanks won't let you land again.
  13. When in map view, I can't select the filters (probes, landers, flags, etc...) without the navball being raised. When I'm flying a probe, and the display of probes is off in map view, and I can't see the active vessel. Seems like the active vessel should always be displayed. When I'm reading the Kerbal forums, and certain posters need to lace their comments with so much snark it instantly sours a perfectly constructive thread.
  14. You can also lock the camera's orientation to that of your ship by cycling through the different camera modes until you find "locked".
  15. Nowhere in the game is the star called Kerbol - it's just the sun. And Mun isn't German and, therefore, doesn't have an umlaut.
  16. 800 hours / $40 = 20 hours of entertainment per dollar 800 hours / $20 = 40 hours of entertainment per dollar (800+ being the number of hours I've logged on KSP) I cannot think of another activity that can come even close.
  17. Sadly, there is no such thing as on-orbit construction in the stock version of the game, so the only way to join two ships together is by using docking ports. And yes, both ships need a docking port, and they both need to be the same size.
  18. Yup. Kerbal space is biiiig. Real space is ten times bigger.
  19. Started off in Germany, somehow wound up in Calgary, Canada.
  20. If you bought from the KSP store BEFORE it was avaiable on Steam, then yes, you can get a Steam key. Here's the quote from the FAQ (and here's a link to it): "I bought the game on the KSP Store, but I want it on Steam. Will you give me a Steam Key? Yes, we now offer the choice to transfer KSP purchases from before the game was available on Steam, note that this process is OPTIONAL and IRREVERSIBLE. If you transfer your purchase to Steam, you will no longer be able to download or update the game from the KSPStore, but also nobody's forcing you to go to Steam, if you opt not to transfer, you can still download and update the game as usual. To move to Steam, log in to your KSPStore profile and you will find the button to start the process next to your download link. Again please note that you will only be eligible for a transfer if you purchased the game before it was on Steam, no exceptions, please don't insist." If you didn't get it through the KSP store back when, or bought it somewhere else, you're probably SOL.
  21. Steam says 725 hours. @RocketPilot573 - I'm curious what your aversion to Steam is. Buying games without having to deal with nerdy, overeager teenagers and never paying full price seems like a plus to me.
  22. I always plant a flag at the base of the launch pad on the first flight of every new save, so I can see where KSC is in map view when planning landings. It invariably reads: "Home, Sweet Home" - Motley Crue
