  1. I managed to get two rockets in close proximity to each other, however in this game I could not see the yellow lines that show where the rocket is and the distance from it. Do you know where they went or if I accidentally switched them off? I do have mods and here is a list of them just in case one of them is the problem: B9partSwitch, Deployable engines, Flags, FuelTankPlus, HullCameraVDS, KerbalEngineer, Kerbaltek, ModRocketSys, ModularFlightIntegrator, NearFutureExploration/Propulsion/Solar/Spacecraft, SC Spacecraft Parts, StockWaterfallEffects, TarsierSpaceTech, Waterfall. Glad for any help that can be given!
  2. Anyone else have 2nd item breaking if claw grabs item that is below grade and full of items?
  3. I'm fairly successful at intercepting and docking - but I'm not 100% sure I understand what is happening and / or doing it right. My methods work for small, maneuverable craft - but my larger, more complex craft are becoming a problem. I get that my 'chase' craft needs to have an over-all shorter orbital path to catch up with the target (lower=faster), and I typically 'play with the nodes' until I get a close encounter to try to dock the craft. So thus far, getting to the point of docking is not the problem... Its the next part that I need help with. Here's what I do: Tweak the nodes until I get an encounter I like. Warp to just before the encounter, then switch to ship view Watch the target until I like its distance, then 'zero out' the relative velocity. Aim at target and goose the engines until I get close (50-75 meters) Zero velocity again, then dock using RCS and other fiddly stuff The whole time from when I shift from map view to ship view is busy. This means I really have no idea what the orbits look like, or what is going on globally - I'm so focused on getting the ships together that I just don't know the answer: Does 'zeroing out' the relative velocity equal 'matching orbits' (i.e. once I'm done - but before docking - do both ships have the same AP and PE? Or should I be doing something in map view to make sure both ships have the same orbit once I'm at the encounter? Is there a good way of making one ship switch targets when map view won't allow me to select another craft? (The ship names are all overlaid one upon the other in map view and I cannot get the mouse to let me select a different craft - but they're too far apart in ship view to let me click on individual parts) How the heck do you dock two huge ships? The specific problem is this: I've got a large interplanetary ship with crew return module, destination satellite and lander. It's big and slow turning and I want to refuel it before the launch window I've also got a large, clumsy refueling craft with a separable 'fuel tug' that I hope to shuttle between the two craft I get the two big ships near one another, undock the tug from the refueler, undock the payload from the crewed main craft (return module) and start shuttling fuel I get the first docking / refueling operation complete I notice that my payload and refueler are drifting alarmingly away. My fuel tug cannot shift it's target from the return module to the refueler I chase the refueler using the Mark One Eyeball, and its a PITA to try to dock without being able to effectively target the craft; even selecting the docking port as the target is not really helping, and it's probably due to something I did in the VAB The other two ships continue to drift away, not only from me - but the payload is quite far from the crew return module. I get frustrated, realize it's 2 a.m. and I've been at this for hours and I'm fried. Game off. Computer off. Can't sleep - grinding away at the problem. Wake up with no real answers. So... How do I do this?
  4. Ok I know its not orthodox but the guy who sold me them said there were powerful magnets which should dock them together. The science lab space station fell over during landing but is otherwise undamaged; and in fact seems to work better for crew access etc on its side. The horizontal lander is a bit unusual, in that it has a centre-mounted, downwards facing engine and also it can safely roll over onto its back to offer various different height with which to mate to other craft. I think they're close enough - have I fitted the docking connectors properly (eg not backwards??) Do I need to target one with the other, or anything like that? Are my angles okay??
  5. i tried the organic docking training . did not get docked ..but it was very helpful been looking at this tutorial [ and others] : i like written procedural , easier for me to see, i will +view+ a motion tutorial but no good for quick reference] science is up good , have a top notch probe head with all the targets. Docking target 150 KM +/- equatorial circular orbit . Docking Trainer launched to 100 KM +/- circular equatorial 0.0 inclination[ Mun Plane] terrier engine , big fuel tank , lots monoprop , step one : no problem .. i am F5 with closet approach .2 KM[ 200 M] differential speed less than 80 F9 bring me in 2 km from target closing , Nav Ball target mode , burn retrograde to zero differential , [ ? circularizing the trainer orbit] ] then i burn to target [ 10-15 closing] ... no joy , i end up dancing around the target + Turning and Burning+ made me very dizzy , my reaction wheel and RCS authority inadequate to keep up .. rcs ports are at CG , i think i will reconfigure on next launch and have some well forward and aft of CG . burning to target [pink circle] prograde matches , then retrograde ,, kind of a halo orbit about the target. .. when i gave it up as a lost cause i had blown the high point of my orbit out to 230 KM.. but then i ran a pretty big tank of fuel through the terrier sometimes at full throttle .. go around go around/ F9 just now i am paused 678.2 m from target , 9.9 m/s differential speed , target selected in the navball , to target selected in SAS , pink circle and prograde marker +nearly congruent+ clearly i am missing a critical step/behavior .. perhaps someone can help . happy to look at links and take advice.
  6. So I’m an Xbox user and I’m very new to KSP. I’ve successfully got through all tutorials besides the last three. That’s the problem. I got to the docking tutorial and I was good...until I got to the part where I needed to get within 100 meters of the stranded ship. I was going towards the target at a steady pace of 10 m/s, just as the tutorial instructed me to. However, once I got within about 600 meters of the craft, it started to travel away from me. This tutorial may be adequate for others, but not me. Does anyone have a solution?
  7. Hello, does anybody here know how to rendezvous and dock with spacecraft easily and efficiently? I'm building a small station at the moment - around 100km above sea level, and when I managed to dock the second stage (comms and power) to the main parent module, I was quite proud, and I decided to go ahead and try attach the third and fourth modules, (crew and research modules) but then I nearly gave up completely when I just couldn't get a rendezvous with the craft again, even though I had a good 1.5k Delta V at my disposal. Also, anybody know how to directly insert a photo into these posts? Sorry if this sounds stupid. Any help would be greatly appreciated
  8. bah, frustrated beyond beleif with this, any tips would be appreciated. this is actually three vessels, the fuel tank>skycrane>thumpers, i need to undock the skycrane(the one with the arms) move it around, and dock the bigger end of it to the SR on the side of the thumpers, this seemed routine for as much docking as ive been doing lately, but for the life of me i cannot get this to work, docking seems to be busted on the ports attached to the thumpers(both the regular ports ont he top and bottom, and the sr on the side.) they just want to bounce off after aquiring eachother, is it because once the thumper is undocked theirs no control on it? no rcs no probe core, nothing? ive attempted this i dont even know how many times now.
  9. I am new to the forums (as well as KSP), and this might be in the wrong forum. If it is, please tell me the correct forum. Anyway, I play the console edition. I have recently landed on Minmus and I am thinking of building a small space station in LKO. Only one problem: I am abysmal at docking. Even the in-game tutorial seems impossible! Could someone give me a detailed tutorial on how to dock?
  10. ok so i have this im trying to dock these together at point 1 and point 2 in the picture, but for the life of me i cannot wrap my head around RCS controls, when i switch to docking mode i cant select the ROT. when im not in docking mode WASD controls my rotation and IJKL does nothing, when in docking mode both WASD and IJKL do translation please explain rcs controls to an infant. EDIT: after watching this scott manley video i think i have a better idea now, but around the 13:40 ish mark he does rotation withought using rcs and my craft will not do that at all. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=srsiLZLPiv0 im tired, i think i know the problem but i cant remember the name of the part that i might have forgotten on my ships, the one that helps with control, its a little disk that uses electricity.
  11. Hi everyone, I just bought this game a month ago and still tied to it haha, here is my issue, I'm triying to complete the contract regarding dock 2 veesses arround kerbin, so 1st I launched one vessel, then send the other, after some time I managed to circularize the orbit and match both vessels in the same pattern (same AP and PA) however.... I don't how to make them encounter(see attached image) if I burn retrograde then the orbit will change and won't be able to reach any of the vessels... to get the things worse....KSP saved automatically so all my pilots are outthere in kerbin orbit (I wish I could save a game before). I would like to know if anybody have some suggestions / advise on how to dock in this scenario. Screens are in spanish(sorry)... but you should be able to understand velocity and distance meausures Vessel1 have aprox = 3590 m/s DeltaV (remaining deltaV ) Vessel2 have aprox = 2506 m/s Deltav(remaining deltaV ) Hope anyone can provide some suggestions.
  12. I need help with the docking tutorial in the game. I was trying to complete them all and I've done them all up to the docking one where I get stuck. So the part I am having issue with is I get the orbit right. Then I have to get my transfer orbit within 5km of the other ship. That's tough but I have done it before. Now comes the real kicker. So I need to slow down so I don't miss it. It says you should start slowing down when you are under 15 km. So I have two questions 1st. How do I know when I am under 15 km. 2nd. When I do start slowing down my separation between the two they become so far apart it is impossible to catch back up to without speeding up again. I've been looking at videos of tutorials and can't seem to find any info on helping me and I have only found 1 video of someone completing this tutorial. Please any help would be really appreciated, thank you.
  13. Hey guys. Long time forum creeper here with a major issue (at least for me ) I am currently unable to undock two shielded docking ports. By that i mean. I AM able to "undock" and close the shields on both my station and my supply/science ship, but i am unable to move away from the station. The magnetic force is too strong. That being said it may just be an issue with the ONE docking port on the station. i tried to undock a different part and it went no problem. I thought the craft may have been to light but its 45 tons and the craft i was able to undock and move away while testing was 48, so not a huge difference in that aspect. I have thought about leaving it attached to the station as an "Oh well ill deorbit it all together eventually". But its currently loaded with precious science that i desperately need. My KSp X64 is modded pretty decently. But the part im having trouble with are stock so i dont believe that could be part of the problem. Any and all imput would be greatly appreciated. Id rather not loose the whole station as it is the one i learned to dock on and have continually upgraded.
  14. So I'm making a mun base. I docked my mover cars to the M.H.M.(Main Habitat Module) and I can not turn the thing....Help Please. Very confused.
  15. I have a fueltank with a docking port on either end - I control the craft by having a probe connected to one of the dockingports. - My issue is that when I want to dock something to the other docking port and I set it as target, the GUI then shows the first docking port as target (the one where my probe is already attached). This prevents me apparantly from doing a succesful docking to the craft. When I detach the probe and try docking to the that dockingport instead, it works fine- anybody had this issue? The docking port is correctly attached and facing the right way and I can perfectly access it in the GUI by right clicking it - I just get the wrong target when accessing it. - - - Updated - - - Screenshot of craft: http://imgur.com/a/7ICl9 - - - Updated - - - Also if anyone happen to know how to edit the save file so 1 RCSblock becomes 4 symmetrical placed RCSblocks, that would be greatly appreciated. Makes docking extra interesting when you have a very heavy craft with RCS thrusters on only one side! :-) - - - Updated - - - Don't know if this is related to the issue but when I in the VAB try to flip the tank with the docking ports, it seems like it will only connect through the one docking port -After having attached it to the probe however, I can perfectly attach something to the problematic port. I also tried to delete the docking port and attach a new one, but doesn't make a difference :-( http://imgur.com/O1Xy8yy,tSyIMvP#1
  16. FIRSTLY.... Sorry if this has already been asked tried looking it up and yeah couldn't see any topics. So I've sunk about three nights now into the really hard to understand Ingame tutorials. So I do all the other ones OK then I get to one called docking. This has to be the hardest Tutorial I HAVE EVER DONE. So I get the target, then I perform a manouver to get into a same angle orbit as the space station target, can do that alright. Next I have to do another manouver to intersect with the stranded space station can do that alright as well. Now onto the confusing excrements. So the tutorial tells me I should wait till im 15K away from the target. UM OK WHERE. on what meter do i look. Do I press M and look at the meter up the top? Do I look on the V-ball thing. Where. Then it tells me to go in retrograde to slow down till im following at 50m/s OK can do that. However when i do this I see the target to which it tells me to go after and well its about 90K away and by the time I get near it Im either going to fast and it flys by or its going faster than I am and flys by me. I managed to get within 500 metres of it until it then shot past me, Now I want to just chuck this game down and never play again. I really need a Tutorial for the Tutorial like a Youtube video or something. Just of that mission. I wish this game wasn't so hard. Oddly its way way easier to even fly to the moon or other planets probably because they have gravity wells. Some sort of automated system that just does it for you would rock. To the point it gets you near what you want to dock with and does the last stages of the intersection by itself. Hopefully someone can help.
  17. so i built a tanker in orbit to store fuel and oxidizer to refuel rockets for long missions, it has 3 tanks that ive connected side by side with docking 2 ports on each tank as to add stability so it wouldent wobble about the middle and left tanks have connected as i intended, both sets of docking ports have connected and arnt wobbling, the issue is with the middle and right tanks http://imgur.com/1Vmd0ZX the upper docking port is slightly misaligned and wont connect, ive tried undocking and redocking but i get the same issue ive also tried rotating the right tank and docking with the other side of the tank and had the same issue, so its not just that port on the right tank. the middle tank was made in symmetry mode so it shouldent be an issue with placement otherwise both tanks would have the issue ive even gotten it to where it looks like they are perfectly connected but they still arnt. i would like to note that the left and right tanks are identical so it shouldent be anything wrong with the design otherwise the left tank would have had the same issue
  18. I.....I Need Help with Docking in Space....... well i meant different docking one.....i just wandering and dreaming to build a ISS...on space.... but i don't know how actually....(not to brag but... it's a shame on me that... i have landed on the moon/mun countless times..... and i have build a base on it too.... and have a probe on Minmus too...but i don't know how to dock on space.) could anyone help me with this?? please?? :3
  19. I have a "reusable" deep space tug (it's one of my standard designs, I've got several of them scattered around the system and they've been successfully hauling things for some time now) that delivered a Jumbo tank of LF/O to an orbiting space station (the tank and station are also standard designs, used successfully yadda yadda yadda). And now I can't undock the tug from the delivered Jumbo tank. I get the "Undock" option on one docking port, as usual...but when I click it, nothing happens. Ports/vehicles don't undock, viewpoint doesn't change to the new CoM of either vehicle, and for that matter the "Undock" command doesn't vanish. It's like nothing got clicked. Docking surfaces are Clamp-o-Tron Sr's, which I docked in LKO (and as mentioned earlier, they're bog-standard designs I've used successfully before), so I know neither of the ports are installed backward. I have tried quitting out of KSP completely and restarting. No joy. I am currently assuming that the state of at least one of the relevant docking ports has gotten corrupted in the persistent file. However, I'm not sure what I should be looking for or what I should change to fix it. (Plus, of course, the station has 6 Clamp-o-Tron Sr's, 2 of which are currently occupied by detachable tanks for a total of 4 more C-o-T Sr's, and the tug of course has one for a total of 11 large docking ports on that composite "craft" in the persistent file.) So can any of you persistent-editing experts tell me what a "healthy" docking port should look like, and how to spot (and fix!) the "problem child" in that morass of docking ports?
  20. HI all I am a noob. I need to learn how to dock to go further in the game (i've landed on the Mun and Minimun and orbited the sun). I am playing the most recent version of KSP (1.1). I've followed the Docking Tutorial as taught by Gene Kerman. I use the maneuver nodes to get within 1 km of the target, and a velocity difference of 10 to 16 m/s. I am PRETTY SURE I've followed all of the instructions to the letter. So now I'm supposed to try get closer with the RCS, using H and N to speed up to slow down. Problem is the target gets closer and closer and then appears over shoot and I have to start adjusting my speed in the opposite direction. I can do this twisted little dance until the RCS propellant runs out and never get closer than 200 meters and 4 m/s. This is very frustrating. Is this just a symptom of a rookie pilot, or am I obviously doing something wrong? Or is Gene giving me bad (outdated advice)? Or do the Kerbals in the other spaceship NOT want to get rescued? Any help or advice welcome. Thanks, take care Orc
  21. Hello there, I know that this thread was already discussed but I can't find a solution >.< here are a couple of screenshot. The port are close and nice aligned, but still undock http://imgur.com/a/wJbCG
  22. Make sure your drills are attached to a HIGH mass object like a giant fuel tank / solar panels. Drills will produce heat and when they're attached to high mass objects, the high mass objects help to absorb a lot of that heat efficiently. It was not attached to something high mass / solar panels at the beginning but then can I dock a high mass object / solar panels with the drill part? Will that help or is it still the same? Thanks! Engineer too. Can I dock one in different module later? Thanks a lot
  23. Using Kolonization, I mounted two docking ports the wrong way around on a 6 port hub. It's already in space, and I've tried removing and reattaching the port the other way around, but it won't attach to structure once I've turned it around. Any ideas?
  24. I am able to get near any orbiting target but trying to close the last Kilometer seems to be beyond me. Can anyone give suggestions as to what I am doing wrong. Thanks
  25. Hello astronauts! I manged to dock one time...and i feel that this was just luck I watched some videos but can't figure it out: What do I have to do at this point? I always drift to the left if i press "h" (RCS forward). Thx for help!
