Why the heck is there no exploration sites?

Recommended Posts

I mean seriously, why the dev diddn't take la 20minutes to make some caves and ..... It's not like it's hard to do it, some clicks on a 3d software and it's done.

It would be so much more epic if we could go cave exploring on the mun. Imagine, you spot the thing from orbit, like a large hole, not a crater. You land to discover a huge hole on the ground.

You then send a ship with rovers adapted to the cave an dlights to explore itt. Some kilometers on the caves later, you discover some .... and a special spot to pick some special stone giving science or anything.

The goes the back trip, you either go the save way by droping lights along the way or the Jeb way full throttle trought the camves.

A little more thriling than landing on some random ass crater to pick sand and go back.

So why isn't some caves or anything like that?

Seriously?

Thos damn 3 arches, the armstrong tomb and the littles squad stones? It's not even exploring, it's like being a chinese tourist in front of the eifel tower, on a computer.

The only one worth it could be the kraken ,but not much better, just a thing laying down.

Only the regreted magic boulder put up a little show, but it's gone now.

I talk about real exploration here. it's been a while since a visited all the anomalies on the kerbol system.

I want real thing to explore.

I see you have build your own planets in this engine, and are an expert on the subject. I suggest you offer your expertise to Squad, so they may correct their glaring lack of talent

Welp, more of these people showing up. Guess we're gonna see them a lot more with KSP being 1.0 now.

Have you run a grand tour yet? Try setting some challenges for yourself or checking out the subforum.

Oh come on I play KSP since 0.20 I had time to visit every thing, I'm just wondering why not adding some things to explore a little harder than just landing

Sure it's an obvious troll etc., but it makes me wonder, why have there been so many legitimate requests for caves in this game? It has to be the top requested surface feature after cities on Kerbin.

Everyone can agree with wanting more interesting surface environments, but there were more important things to focus attention on prior to release, and it's probably more difficult than you think; the planets are made with height maps, and height maps can't model caves, arches, or overhanging cliffs (at least as far as I'm aware, anyway), so there would need to be considerable work put into modelling all these things and then placing them around realistically; they'd be along the lines of the currently existing easter egg/anomaly models in the game. That would be a workaround for the height map issue, and a good one, but it wouldn't be perfect, and the height maps would need adjusting on every celestial body in order to make all these new additions seem flush and seamless instead of jarring.

So, a fair amount more work than you're thinking

Hopefully terrain improvements will be coming along in a future update, because I do agree that there needs to be more variety in the surface environments, especially on Duna, which IMO actually lost some of its appeal around 0.21 or 0.22 after it not only lost some of its more vivid and contrasting colouration, but the flat lake/sea floors became rolling hills along with the rest of the planet.

Why a troll, I mean, yes maybe 20minutes may be a little cheap, but don't tell me the took a month to create the archs, Everybody who know how to run a 3d software is capable of doing it in less than an hour. Cave would juste be reverse, creating holes and adding them in some point of the map isn't this hard when you create a whole solar system.

And it may be asked a lot because empty planets arn't this much appealing. Big part of the story may be the travel, but if you spend hours to reach some place, you expect to find some things to do ther exept 10 clicks.

The Truth is out there man!

Personally, I'd like to see more liquid formed terrain features on duna... more ancient river networks/ outflow channels... there seem to be two... and they aren't all that detailed.

Aluvial fans with a delta, snaking river channels... duna's got nearly 0.2 atmospheres of pressure, we could even have some tiny pools of water on it... but keep it less % liquid than the % of land on laythe.

Well I did read a topic some time ago telling the contrary, that's why i was wondering. But if it's real then it starts to be legit

Guys, seriously, if I put this topic here, it's because I ran out of every thing that goes out of the ground.

And since a long time. Once again, I'm done being a chinese tourist

Have you visited the only included "cave" so far yet? The Mohole :P

Yeah, even constructed a special plateform to go down without glitching. It was quite thrilling to do it

#1) The real solar system is pretty barren

#2) The sheer scale of what is being modeled here is insane. You can't expect to just put down randomly, and find a specially made adventure maze/puzzle/feature waiting for you.

The vast majority of everything will be procedurally generated, with specificly designed features really only evident from orbit (like the little cauldera islands on laythe, the valleys on duna, the very large mun craters, etc)

I suppose they could make the terrain scatter more varied, and vary by location/biome.... but if you can't be pleased by procedurally generated terrain, then you're asking too much I think.

Caves and similar geological features have been suggested so many times that they are now on the [thread=36863]list of things not to suggest[/thread]. This is not because they are bad ideas, but to allow the discussion to move on to other ideas.

If you're convinced that this type of procedurally generated terrain would be easy to implement, then I suggest trying to mod it in yourself. Perhaps a working model would convince to the developers to include or prioritize this feature. There are a few resources on the web by people who have attempted procedurally generated caves in 3D and there is plenty of information about how to mod KSP in the Plugin Development Help and Support forum.
