Looking for a beloved game...

The game I am looking for is a couple of years old, but has 3D graphics. It is a car game where you can perform stunts and explore maps or battle AI cars with weapons. It is not racetrack or race based. It also has a car component damage system, including wheels, engine and other things.

I played it at a friends house and loved it, but I cannot find it or remebers its name anymore.

Sounds like you may of played Carmageddon.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carmageddon

It has been updated for modern systems as Carmageddon Reincarnation.

I loved the original, when funds allow, I will likely get the modern version.

[Edit2] Hmmm, new version isn't getting very good reviews on Steam, seems mostly complaints on frame rate and optimizations. Might wait to see if they improve it. Last time I checked it had not been released yet, so there were no reviews.

[Edit3] Available on GOG (along with Carmageddon II) for $9.99 and $19.98 for Carpocolypse Now:

Was it a Hot Wheels game? I have some still from my childhood, and they seem to fit your description. :)

It was not hotwheels, it was "realistic" themed. It is not as old as most games suggested, I think it is from the 2000s.

Might not be it, since the "realistic" theme, but maybe Vigilante 8 or something from the series? I'm not sure they made em for PC though.

Other idea: maybe something from the FlatOut series?

Best suggestion I can end on is the Wikipedia list of vehicular combat games. Scrolling through might refresh your memory. :)

Possibly BeamNG Drive? You can battle AI cars (no native weapons however) and explore the maps, very realistic soft body physics. (likely too new however, as it is an early access game.)

Maybe this will help. It is a wiki listing for car combat games.

Best of luck!

Its not vigilante or FlatOut, but the list helps greatly. I am checking it right now. Thanks.

interstate '76

carmageddon as well.

sometimes i wish they would breed and have an abominable mutant offspring. it would mix the car dogfighting with the pedestrian splatter demolition derby of carmageddon.

i didnt really like games like twisted metal, it felt too arcadey. carmageddon had a somewhat interesting physics model with deformable geometry on the cars. it wasnt just the carnage in that game that made it awesome.

interstate '76 ran on the mechwarrior 2 engine which likely explains why i enjoyed the game so much. dogfighting in cars is kind of tricky, the guns were fixed and so if you needed to shoot down a helicopter, you had to find a hill. you could get turreted weapons and missiles but that wasnt as fun. you also had a pistol for shooting out through the side windows. i always wished i could do that in carmageddon, because sheep.

Sounds a lot like Carmageddon or Carmageddon 2000. It was racing based, but frankly, who cared about the racing. We all destroyed stuff and ran over people (or zombies if you had the censorship on).

Carmageddon is race based, though I generally chose to win by eliminating competition :D

Was wondering why no one mentioned it.

Look at that blocky goodness!

I never played it.
