My game keeps on crashing at random times!

You ran out of addressable memory in the Windows Operating System. It is the same error you would get from over-modding a game and running out of memory (Going over the 4GB limit), but in this case it was the system that ran out of memory.

There are 2 ways to resolve this:

1. Switch to Windows 64bit, rather than 32bit. 32bit windows is outdated anyway.

OR

2. Lower your graphics settings to reduce the amount of RAM being used overall

Also, make sure that you have as few applications open at the same time as possible. For example, having many tabs in your browser, all with youtube movies, will make the crash happen a lot more often than if the game was the only application running.

Hope this helps :)

Will the Active Texture Management plugin help?

Yes, ATM will reduce the frequency of crashes. It will reduce the amount of ram that is required, but the main problem is with the numerous memory leaks that are present in the latest version. Basically, the RAM available to KSP will slowly decrease until it gets below a certain point, at which point it crashes. ATM reduces the "point" so it will (theoretically) be longer before a crash happens.

Also, turn off the temperature thermometers via F10. It's actually the PFFX that leaks, so if you want thermometers, turn off PPFX (if it's not off already).

Aside from that, tuning down graphics provides the biggest reduction in memory consumption (without mods). Revert as few times as necessary, and if you notice lag with one of the tweakables open, make your changes and close it as soon as able.

Cheers,
