Aeronautical Re-Engineering

I\'ve said what this was (supposed) to be in another thread, but I\'m still proud enough to put it here :)

More obvious hint...

Note that I normally fly it with canards (which also jettison on capsule separation). It weighs so very much that it\'s almost impossible to fly properly without them.

This is the only really \'complete\' plane I\'ve made. By complete I mean:

It has to be an F-15.

Valkyrie. The bomber.

Ah, but of course!

Here\'s the craft file(s) as a reward. One is decked out with all the eye candy, one is simplified and minimalist for weight/glitch/lag reduction, and one is just for fun -- it adds a booster-powered escape craft (which, alas, would have come in quite handy on the real XB-70A).

Whoo thats quite a challenge to fly!

Yeah, it tries to copy the original and isn\'t adapted for crazy KSP physics. Here\'s a modified version that\'s substantially easier to fly at the expense of a bit of authenticity. While I doubt you\'ll be doing many post-stall maneuvers, it handles better than you\'d expect from a strategic bomber larger than a B-52.

The most annoying bit is the jettisonable sled that keeps the nose in the air for takeoff. Without ground effect or flaps, it\'s really hard to get large planes in the air without propping them up at a ridiculous angle. Hopefully that will be improved in later versions of KSP.

Edit: updated version. I noticed the last one had some issues with restarting flights, so I went back an reworked it a bit more. It should be more balanced now.

The rudders still suck, but that seems to be more of an game issue--air resistance doesn\'t seem to be factored properly when calculating rotation, so even a plane with a massive wing will roll or pitch extremely easily. Which means that any slightly offset force from a rudder will send most ships spinning wildly. With luck a future KSP will fix this.
