The Origins of Blackbird Aviation.

Project Raven is Blackbird Aviation's very first, project. With a rather controversial start, and very unexpected results, the project has since grown into the hearts and minds of the time and dedication of our dear veteran employees here at the company. And what is it about? Well, from creating something else rather than what's in store at the catalog to mind raging through brainstorms for breakthroughs, Project Raven's headset is on a very particular type of aircraft; Easy-to-fly Atmospherics and SSTOs.

Well, come to think of it, the project has grown into much more than that. When Project Infinity introduced something called style, later followed by Project Nova, Project Raven went on to shifting a bit and reworking in developing stylish aircrafts that still conserve its function over form. Of course, function and form had always seem to diverge into separate ways, and in Project Raven, we're trying to see if we can get the two back together.

It is safe to say, that currently the KORE series of SSTOs is the core research sample of Blackbird Aviation for their upcoming projects. The simple build combined with the simple flight profile of the KORE Series has grounded most of Blackbird Aviation's models to near-obsolete, and such was a literal breakthrough in the heads of the top kingpins of the company. The KORE Series of SSTOs brings with them an all new concept in the flight profiles of SSTOs, the ExpressTrip Flight Profile. Such flight profiles meant that the KORE Series has indeed, the capability to sheer off the competition in SSTOs with practicality, and style.

The Titan Hunter Mk4 was another basis for the development of the overhauls for the B-X02b and the B-X05b. The idea of a delta winged aircraft being more suitable for high speed interception all dated back to the appearance of the Titan Hunter Mk4 to Blackbird's CEO and Heads Office. Capable of 15+ gees maneuvering at low altitudes speeds of 300m/s, the Titan Hunter Mk4 was taken in the Blackbird Engineers as a sample for further research on its half-sane capability.

And it also was thanks to this that the development for the B-X11b Golden Raven Mk2 stepped up to the B-X11c Golden Raven Mk3. In a less dramatic atmosphere, the engineers found out that all they needed were, more wings and less engines.

The iconic White Dart Model has been a long time veteran in the area of SSTOs, and an ever-so evolving model that just so happen to keep the good stuff while getting more. Well regarded in the community, the White Dart is known for its slapstick simplicity and elegance, a mere 60 parts for a fully functioning SSTO, plus even being modular despite its light weight and light power rating. It serves as a good ground for entry-level SSTOs, and having a TWR ratio greater than 1 at all flight levels means that the White Dart doesn't have time to lose kickback for shucks.

And in fact, the White Dart 1.0 was first-handedly tested by Blackbird Aviation's CEO, to which he decided to steal learn the concepts in such a build and apply it to the apex models of Project Raven. It is because of this, that the B-X17 Raven III owes its huge success to the White Dart 1.0.

The Blackbird B-X17 Raven III is the latest in the lineup of Project Raven. A modular twin-seated SSTO, the B-X17 boasts a slapstick simple flight profile with moderate power and efficiency, although when refueled in orbit, can be utilised into a very long ranged versatile SSTO. The B-X17's modular prowess is its main selling point, as being able to swap in and out the necessary parts and utilities for a given mission instead of, say carrying everything is has quite the sense to it, don't you think?

Iconically built from the airframes of its predecessors, the B-X17 Raven III also boasts strong heat resistance during atmospheric flaring, with custom canards being able to withstand the friction of the atmosphere and high tolerance in temperature, which means you that you can hit a whopping 1400m/s in atmosphere before switching to nominal rockets. And best of all, is of course, the simple user manual that it comes with. Simple;

Flight Instructions

Fire RAPIERS / 40 degrees -> 10km

5-10 Degrees -> 19km / Achieve 1400m/s

Fire LV-N at 23km -> Switch to Rockets at 26km / Disable LV-N

15-20 degrees to Apoapsis / Raise Apoapsis to 80km

Circularize Option: Empty Oxidizer -> Fire LV-N / Disable RAPIERS

Profit.

In the terms of atmospheric aircraft, the Blackbird B-X11c Golden Raven Mk3 is indeed, an apex model of Project Raven. Capable of pulling 15+ Gees at speeds of 350m/s, the B-X11c Golden Raven Mk3 boasts golden super agility combined with sub-sonic speeds, without the whole wariness at snapping the aircraft into multiple aircraft pieces during aerobatic exhibitions.

A whole yards faster, more intense, and surprisingly cheaper than its predecessor (for some engineering reason), the B-X11c Golden Raven Mk3 is an instant choice for your high-speed, high agility cravings, with cost-effective and part-friendly whatsoevers. So, go grab a Golden Raven (be sure it's the Mk3) and show off to your friends all the insane maneuvers you can pull, as rumors had it that the inline Mk1 cockpit's wheel is more likely to snap than the rest of the aircraft. Try proving that rumor false.

From the madness of AMRSD, the Zephyr SSTO holds a special place in Blackbird Aviation, being that it was the step needed by our engineers in order to kickstart the development for the B-X05b Raven II MK2. The Zephyr is a multi-role SSTO, capable of shuttling crew, and carrying small payloads, all packed in a small, compact, and easy-fly package. Simple as it is, the Zephyr provides a simple, reliable, and ready-use SSTO with not much experience required for operation.

The Mk-2 Arrow series of SSTOs provides you a reliable staple of easy-fly profiles, allowing for a surely arrived LKO destination in a matter of minutes. Offered in three distinguishable variants for the loads of purposes, the Mk-2 Arrow's universal design allows for flexible features. The three variants of the Mk-2 Arrow are as follows:

Jebediahs personal jet

2 seat, high performance SSTO for Jebediah to check out how it's going on at space stations.

Center of mass stays about the same, great RCS performance for docking

Crew Carrier

2 + 8 seat crew transport SSTO

Center of mass isn't quite perfect. RCS is centered around average center of mass, docks okey tough

Cargo

long + short cargo bay with docking ports on each end.

Comes loaded with RCS powered space tug that is great for recovering, and deorbiting debris.

I decided to include docking for this variant as well, RCS is centered on when cargo bay is empty.

As long as load has its own RCS system, and its enabled, docking should be fine with cargo on board.

Not as good performance as the other variants due to added weight.

the RP6-N3 Arrowhead is a much more refined version of the original N4K arrowhead, Screeno found that using rapiers instead saved weight and delta-v. The RP6 is now streamlined, which allows it to get almost 1500 m/s in atmo using airbreathing mode, a ground breaking feat in the engineering of SSTOs.

Flight Instructions:

take off at 45 degrees and remain here until 5km up, then pitch down to 30, then at 10km pitch down to 20, then the cooking phase begins! nothing explodes at all though. and finallly at 15km pitch down to 10. dont pitch now you can just let it accelerate to max speed. you will get approximatley 1490 ish m/s at 24km up, then you can switch rapier mode and turn on nukes. there's enough oxidiser to get the apoapsis almost to space then the nukes will do the rest. set desired apoapsis, coast, circularise and then do your thing ;) i reccomend refueling it in a low kerbin orbit and then taking it for a trip to wherever you think it could go. (confirmed mun and minmus capable but with that amount of Dv im sure it could do more)

The Blackbird B-X14 Blackwing is the outburst-born demand for an SSTO B-X11 Golden Raven variant, and supposedly was classified as a sub-model, until it really did just went to become more than that. With heavy cues in design hailing from Project Infinity, the B-X14 Blackwing is a static multipurpose SSTO capable of shuttling crew as well as lifting payloads of a restricted Mk2 2m Cargo Bay size.

By default, the B-X14 Blackwing is configured to be a research vessel, equipped with a Blackbird Aviations SAUM-2 module, and a butt-Klaw, which has a quite interesting position when considering the engines. Asteroids don't overheat luckily, but it is recommended NOT to use the B-X14's butt-klaw for rescue operations and utility grabbing, unless you want your utility or rescue target to get, crispy.

The Blackbird B-X11b Golden Raven Mk2 is a grand-scale overhaul in the blueprints of the B-X11 Golden Raven. Continuing with the, continuity, of replacing Blackbird's Legacy Models with improvements, the B-X11b is a bird not only meant for show, unlike its predecessor. Where form is only there for form previously, the B-X11b adds function. Simply put, the B-X11b is capable of pulling off 15+ gees in speeds of 250m/s, and although out-performed by other models (we're looking at the B-X02b) the insane agility of the B-X11b is what holds its pride. A super agile aircraft.

It may be that, maybe, Blackbird Aviation's obsession with swept wings finally paid off, and that the actual concept of swept wings=agility++ actually worked this time around, but whatever the case, we here at Blackbird Aviation are proud to present to you, a super agile aircraft, and you best knock yourself out with it.

The Blackbird B-X05b Raven II Mk2 (Yes, a lot of 2's there) is a complete, as in complete, overhaul of the B-X05 Raven II. In terms of practicality, the B-X05b scores a point. A modular SSTO (That actually uses its rockets for something) and the first ever modular SSTO by Blackbird Aviation, the B-X05b has a specific pivot that can be removed for swapping various modules fit for any mission, whether it be crew shuttling, cargo, or something else.

Funny enough, you would guess that the B-X05b has uncanny (not really, uncanny) similarity with the B-X02b. Well, that's what Blackbird Aviation calls environmental-friendly recycling, because we need to save the trees (despite everything being computerized and no trees were harmed in the making of this-) Long story short, someone swapped the liquid tanks in the B-X02b with that of LF+O tanks, and the B-X05b Raven II Mk2 was born. Those heat resistant canards really do work well with SSTOs. Go figure.

The B-X02b Raven Mk2 is the shot of Blackbird Aviation for kickstarting that aging B-X02 into something more inline with present standards. The B-X02b has a notable streamlined and sleek design, with a custom heat resistant canard that can withstand high temperatures during atmospheric flaring. Wait, atmospheric flaring? Yes. The B-X02b is a top bird when it comes to speed, achieving a notable cruising speed of 900+m/s below 1km before the intakes would likely blow off due to ram-cramming. But here's something new, the B-X02b can in fact, leave the pilot safe even during the blowing-up phase, and leave the whole aircraft in tact after suffering general intake losses.

This is the marvel of the B-X02b, being able to come back in a notable one piece (notable because some pieces would fall, most likely) so watching that throttlebar isn't a life and death situation. The B-X02b's aerodynamic build, plus its custom canards and intakes, all makes up a fast, reliable, and iconic aircraft by Blackbird Aviation.

The Blackbird B-X11 Golden Raven was developed (or put together, rather) in celebration of Blackbird Aviation's past-the-X mark, and as such, is more or less an aesthetic than anything. Intended for a ton of potential, but only ending up as a display, the B-X11 was meant the replace both the B-X02 and the B-X05 in terms of, everything. But engineers back in the day had trouble doing so, and because they had trouble doing so, the trouble costed the whole company a lot more than they hoped for.

And this is where the B-X11 ends up a golden bird, in terms of display. Because all further development plans were canceled, the model ended up as a display of symbolic means, something that doesn't quite catch your attention nowadays.

The B-X05 Raven II was meant to be, supposedly the successor to the B-X02 Raven. It was a successor at being able to take off, at least with a disaster possibility 75% lower than of the B-X02 Raven. Development of the B-X05 began after the stacked successes of the B-X04 Mini Bird and the B-X06 Mega Bird, and initially, plans for the B-X05 Raven II were of SSTO capability, due to some intel gained from a will-not-be-named rising rival company.

This is where the bulk of the B-X05 stemmed from, having rockets slapped to its sides because Blackbird engineers really did think it was that simple. Turns out it wasn't, but the B-X05 Raven II was said to be theoretically capable of orbit. Theoretically. Nonetheless, engineers found a way to keep the rocket strapped under the B-X05's final blueprints, writing it off as meant for an "extra kick".

The B-X02 Raven, by Blackbird Aviation, is the pilot model of Blackbird's B-X Series, as well as being very much the first ever Blackbird model produced by Blackbird's first ever project; Project Raven. Although the project didn't have much of a goal, other than making 'something really cool-looking", the very first product of the project was a booming success for once-a-band-of-outcast-engineers Blackbird Aviation, being able to kickstart other projects that are now continuing onwards to this day.

A closer look at the B-X02 Raven though, and you would see that the aircraft has a tendency to wobble out of control and break almost 95% of the time, most likely being due to the fatal flaw of not having struts. Nonetheless, the main selling point was in fact due to the fact that the B-X02 Raven has seen in better days where there wasn't much option at the catalog. And even if Blackbird Aviation was later attacked by complaints of customers and lawsuits by Ravenspear pertaining to the B-X02 Raven, the generated revenue was enough for them to dodge those bullets.

These are some really impressive planes! Keep up the good work. Those pictures are excellent themselves.

You really seem to have a lot of potential here!

I am very sure that Jeb would give three thumbs up if more boosters were applied. Or had thumbs in the first place...

Oooooh. Armed versions. Dangit, now I've got to go re-download BD Armory... XD

Does the Golden Raven happen to work in FAR? I've got one KSP game that's Generally Accepted As Stockalike (all the mods most of us use such as Kerbal Engineer Redux, MechJeb, KIS/KAS, plus a few stockalike spaceplane expansion packs) and another that is Officially Modded to Death (FAR, B9 proc wings required for me to beast FAR transonic aero, a few visuals mods to make me feel like I'm not wasting my graphics card, and now BD Armory...), and I'd rather not have to clutter up the parts catalog of my stock game with BD missiles. I just got it under control, darngit. XD

If you're not sure, I'll be more than happy to try it, and smooth out any little bumps that cause FAR to lose its lunch.

All Blackbird models have not been tested on FAR aerodynamics, we'd appreciate if you could do that for us :D
