Can someone please fix the alien nostromo for 1.02

Looks like a lovely old craft. But in the absence of any sort of licence in the download or anywhere in that thread, nobody apart from the author is really allowed to update the model or code, sorry. :(

I think if it can be fixed with an MM patch, that shouldn't be a problem with copyright. Though that does seem unlikely in this case since there is a custom dll for engine switch and stuff.

A quick except :

A custom plugin is required (Nost_pluginModule.dll, included in the download package) for the engine switching as well as for the animated landing gear. Make sure to move the file to the plugin directory within the KSP directory. Source code has been included

yup there is custom animations... and source code is included.

I looked into the source code and I think it doesn't do complicated stuff. The major problem still is that there's no license. Without it only the mod author is allowed to modify anything. A MM patch definitely isn't enough to fix the mod.

Unfortunately the mod author isn't active in this forum for almost 2 years. The chance is very slim that he'll return. Maybe you can ask him somehow through Dropbox to add a license.

[MOD - Irrespective of how old the add-on is, you **MUST** respect whatever licence it is distributed under. Any add-on without a licence is automatically assumed to fall under "All Rights Reserved", meaning **ONLY** the original author can modify/distribute the add-on.]

You'll either need to contact the original author by some other means, or simply remake the add-on from scratch.

Technically the (US) copyright will expire 70 years after the author's death, or 95 years from the date of creation if he/she never reveals his/her legal name. So in about 2107 you could distribute the patch along with the mod. That might be a teensy bit longer than it would take to develop a similar mod from scratch.

Apologies for the confusion, guys, but to clarify:

- Yes, you can make a patch for the Nostromo mod right now

- However, the patch must be offered separately from the original mod itself (i.e. you need to tell other people to download the original Nostromo mod before getting your patch)

- You cannot directly bundle the old mod with your patch for the sake of convenience (as the ARR licence prohibits that)

okay well we are working on it for just a private use i mean nobody seems to have a particular interest in this mod besides a few people would it be okay to distribute the mod in private messages to people that want a fixed version, I currently work two jobs and am studying to be an EMT so learning how to make this and then making it myself is out of the question i mean im doing what i can to help but cripp is working on most of it for me

You just have to learn to write module manager patches, which is extremely simple once you grasp the concept.

It doesn't matter if it's for "private use" or "a few people" - you need to obey the licence on the original work. Therefore:

- You can link to the original (broken) mod and distribute only the MM patches needed to fix it

- You cannot redistribute a new version of the mod as a single package
