The Airliner Showcase Thread

People. They've got things to do, places to see. Cars bustle along busy roadways like a river of insects. Trains zip trough countryside counties, startling sheep and annoying farmfolk. Ships cut lines across oceans, connecting crew and cargo to foreign nations and peoples. And, of course, up in the air, planes drone through the cloudscapes, transporting passengers to friends, family, and corporate opportunities.

These behemoths of aluminum composite and jet fuel are a backbone of modern life, and if transporting tired celebrities or loud children, they always serve as a (semi) reliable workmule.

So now, it's time to pay tribute to these people movers, these diligent aircraft-

The airliners.

Here is the place to showcase your crewed creations, whether moving people or cargo, all are welcome.

To begin the happenings, I shall show my most recent creation- The Avio A406:

Here's one I made a week ago. It's based on the DC-3 and was designed for towing gliders, but it has a passenger capacity of 48, and looks the part, so I guess it's an airliner.

Stopped on the ground.

It was quite fun building this, maybe I'll start building more airliners like this one.

Wanted to have a bash at the "radiators as body panels thing"... And needed an excuse to add my props to something. So here's the Polar Queen. A vintage inspired lumbering soul of airliner.

Doesn't do much, other than handle as she should. Slowly, and gently. Currently only seats for two, but there's a whole lot of empty fuselage that could take some seats.

Don't have a big enough Engine?.....make one!!!...... Really nice Air Bus, I like that engine idea, more power!

Thanks castille7,

I was really happy with how they turned out.

I think I'm going to do a remake with the new engines coming in 1.1. They are pretty well the right sort of style, so hopefully they produce enough thrust.

I planning on making the next one twice as big, with hopefully a similar amount of parts. We'll see how it goes.

I also have a Concorde over at my company's page (link in sig).

I like the thread too Zodiak, it's gonna grow pretty quick I reckon.

Goodness me! I just started five lines in a row with "I"... Believe me I'm really not that self-centered! :P

Happy flying everyone!

You guys inspired me to goof sround with some planes, and now that the soup is gone, I like the results.

Sadly, the wheesley is nothing to write home about. Therefore, it tops out at about 5,000m and 150m/s, which is very much not airliner-like. The handling at low altitudes and TWR is, though.

Rune. Ok, maybe a bit tight on TWR. But enough.

@rune the problem is that the wheesly is that it has a lower TWR, but the alternative has that emissive that lags lower end systems (like mine :I)

Actually the issue is the thrust curve. It craps out way short of the 10,000m where the airliner engines give their best. And turboramjets are just unrealistic, not to mention ugly for the purpose. Then again, considering Kerbin's scale, maybe half the speed and altitude of the real thing is about the right scaling?

Rune. I can keep it flying at TWR 0.3, but that's still not enough.

Thanks!

I couldn't hold myself, I started an entire airport system in Kerbin City. Yes, planes do land there and Kerbals practice landing every now and then, but that's kinda rare sometimes. :)

At the center, you can see an MD-11, as well as another aircraft going for a test flight.
