So people clearly cannot count on Republicans to send someone to mars or even moon, nor people trust Democratic to be any better.....

That clearly means that US space program are screwed anyways ain\'t it? >:(

I mean, space is great and all, but they do have some points.

A moon colony would be cool. Self sustaining? Probably not, or at least for a while that is. It is very expensive, and it won\'t really pay back directly to our civilization at the moment.

If we had a moon or a planet nearby that had very worthy material on it\'s surface or contained resources to sustain a base on that body, then we would have been there already.

That video seems politically biased. I believe politics and science should have as much or more separation than church and state. Both parties are to blame. IMO, there isn\'t anything so messed up that the government (of all countries) can\'t make it worse. The governments (US and USSR mostly) have played a large part of their role in starting space exploration and colonization, but the future of space lies with companies like spacex. Governments will NEVER be able to beat innovations that come from individuals and companies.

There will a reason for private companies to want to go to space, and it will happen. We\'re just not at that point right now.

Wait, what\'s PBS? Are you talking about Constellation? Because Constellation is awesome.

PBS is the Public Broadcasting Service. It\'s an American television network, so if you\'re not from the US it may not be familiar to you. It\'s pretty well respected here though, and has run many great programs over the years, including science programs, one of those being Cosmos: A Personal Voyage.

Edit: This is a preview of one of the interviews in the documentary. It does not rule out commercial space travel, in fact, it shows scientists praising it.
