docking port won't detach if attached to the round part of fuel tank

Recommended Posts

I have a ship with docking ports on it. I attach a fuel tank with no docking port on it to the docking port on the ship. It will decouple if it is attached by an end but not if it is attached by the round part. The question is why? Is this intended or is it a bug?

Do you mean like this?

If you attach a part to a docking node via it's attach point/node (the green circle) then you can decouple the part - as in the first node in this pic under the command pod can detach the yellow RCS tank below it.
If you attach a part radially to a docking node (not by it's attach point) as the bottom tank is then you cannot decouple it.

@JPLRepo Yes that is exactly it. Is that the intend way for it to work? Thanks for the pic.

Hmm, didnt realise this.....or is it bug?

im interested as im about to start a kis kas game, (not the place to ask, i know...but) would an eva kerbal still able to detach it?

I haven't used kis/kas much but I believe it will work as it is a function of the mods. my question was strictly a stock game thing.

There is no bug.
Decouplers will only detach a part attached by a node.

AS for KIS/KAS - can't answer that. That's a question for those mods.
