How to install mods-any articles here?

The search function literally has hundreds of posts that contain the phrase "how to install mods", so it is not useful on figuring out how to do so.  This will be the first time I am getting a mod to install, so if there is an easy to understand guide within the forums, I'd appreciate it.  Thanks!

I've downloaded CKAN.  But now it does not seem to run or show like the User Guide for CKAN shows.  I downloaded MechJeb and can't figure which specific folder to put it in.  The Wiki tutorial says to put it in the "game folder".  Not sure what that means.

Mods all go in the GameData folder.
