Putting a spacecraft directly into Munar orbit without launch from Kerbin

Question

If I am testing various designs of spacecraft is it possible to put a craft directly into orbit around the Mun so that I can try various lander designs etc. without needing to go through the whole process of launching from Kerbing, Munar transfer, insertion etc.

It's possible to put a craft into orbit anywhere you like, using the "cheats" section of the debug console - open it with Mod+F12.
If you need more advanced features, such as landing and testing a rover on another body, check out Hyperedit.

Yes, the debug/cheat menu ;)

Press "modkey" + "F12" or click on "Show version information..." in the pause menu (works since KSP 1.5.1) to open the debug menu (on windows, "alt" is the modkey by default) and you will find an option to set an orbit for your active vessel. Well, you cannot directly put an orbital altitude there but the semi-major axis (SMA). For a circular orbit, the SMA can be calculated by adding "radius of the celestial body" + "orbital altitude" or you can just typ in a very small number like "1" and KSP will automatically use the minimal allowed SMA for this body.

Oh, if you got an NIVIDA graphics card and GeForce Experience is installed, you may need to press "Ctrl" + "modkey" + "F12" since this tool uses the same key combination for a different function (can changed though).

Another option is to use KRASH:

It will let you simulate your craft from the VAB and can directly insert it into orbit.
