Colonisation of Laythe

Recommended Posts

Kerbin is dying. After many failed launches and some silly scientist leaving their nuclear spacecraft on all year to see if it ever gets off the ground, the amount of toxic chemicals that have been put into the atmosphere has started killing all life. The Kerbals, finding out about this, have made a plan to move to another planet - or should I say moon?

You have been trusted to act out this plan.

Main mission: Make a base on Laythe and bring 10 Kerbals there.

Bonus 1: Collect surface samples from Tylo before landing on Laythe.

Bonus 2: Collect surface samples of all of Jool's moons (excluding Laythe) before landing on Laythe.

Bonus 3: Bring 20 Kerbals to Laythe and setup two bases.

Even though this bad boy is in LKO right now, it's standing by for its maneuver node to Jool.

  • The Laythe outpost prototype with the protective fairing split apart.
  • Its capabilities include, but are not limited to:
    • ~ 60G Relays
    • All science with lab
    • ~ 8230 Electric Charge
      • 4 x Gigantor Panels
      • 2 x RTG
    • 19-person capacity
      • PPD-12 Viewing Module looking upward
    • Entrance ladders
    • Surrounding lights

I'm also sending this 20-person plane to Laythe right now (after refueling on Minmus and Ike, of course).

If you want more details on my Laythe exploration and colonization efforts, don't hesitate to read the Neptune Mission Files down below.

This could be an interesting challenge, but I've got  few questions:

Main mission:  Any particular requirements for what constitutes a base? I assume we're talking about having enough habitation modules and power, but do we also need antennas, resource extraction/conversion capability, science modules, etc? Based on your back-story, that seems like a reasonable requirement.

Bonuses 1/2: Do we actually need to deliver all the surface samples to the base or just collect them before going there?

Another general question: Any limitation on the number of separate launches/LKO departures allowed to do all of this?
