Inability to exit game or enter VAB

Question

I seem to be experiencing a very strange problem that cropped up me without making any changes (other than steam auto updates) to my game... I assumed some mod caused it, but it after trying a clean install of both the core game and redownload/install of the same mods that worked fine last week, I'm still getting the same problem. It is not tied to a particular save game, and pops up in new save as well. 

  So far the ONLY thing that I've been able to get to work is a game clean install with not a single mod. If I add mods, then remove all mods, it still has this error.
