Thrust is out of balance after transferring fuel

Recommended Posts

I have a ship in Mun orbit: four X200-32 fuel tanks stacked on top of a Mainsail. It flies straight and true, as long as I don't move any fuel around. I tried moving the fuel from the top two tanks to the third one, and now when I light the Mainsail, it doesn't burn for more than a moment before it goes out of control, even at minimal thrust. I would think that since the fuel is still all in line with the engine it would be fine.

I guess the basics would be:

  • Is SAS enabled?
  • Are the engine gimbals enabled?
  • Is the control point set to the same vessel that has the engine?

An image would be helpful for more context.

Another issue would be, perhaps moving the fuel around changes the center of mass such that the engine doesn't have enough gimbal range to steer the stack.

Thanks ... it was the control point that tripped me up. I have a docking port on the stern of the ascent module that I docked with the portion I was having trouble with. Of course, I set the control point to that docking port, and forgot to correct it once I was docked.

DOH!

Is there a way to change my title from "Spacecraft Engineer" to "Idiot Engineer" in my profile?

<several minutes later>

Ha! Found it!
