How to send a Spaceplane to Eve?

Recommended Posts

You need very little to get to eve and landing can be done on parachutes thanks to the nice thick atmosphere. If you're only after a one way trip then it sounds like you're thinking far too large.

I can't give you an explicit design as I haven't tried a one way trip (only ambitious and so far failed return missions) but try it with an existing smaller rocket like a Mun return mission and you'll be surprised how far you get.

I can fix your title for you Russ :)

Getting heavy stuff to orbit is a pain, for me anyway as my frame rate dies, so I stick with small rockets.

But one trick is to daisy chain your boosters, it's known here as the asparagus design, basically each pair of boosters feeds fuel into the next, keeping them topped up and allowing you to shed weight early as the first few pairs of boosters run dry.

Thank you! I'll try to do that once I finish my Airplane.

BTW do you think it (the airplane I'm planning to take to Eve) will need lots of fuel once it get there?

BTW2 I've already sucessfully landed a pod on Eve but it was a vary bad landing and the pod is badly damaged, I'm kinda roleplaying an rescue mission so this airplane needs to be able to go into orbit once it has "recued" the stranded kerbalnauts.

I don't think anybody has made an Eve return trip yet, spaceplane or rocket.

I believe it's been done down to the top of eve's highest mountain and back off again but it is very difficult. Take as many drop-tanks as your plane can carry while still being able to take off in 70% stronger gravity and expect to fail.
