KSP Trading Cards

I believe so *Note I do not work for steam or Squad, my understanding is based on previous information attained via the internet about past steam events and may be entirely inaccurate. Too much broccoli will increase your gastronomic output.

Valve just wants a part in everything. And if they can't do it with hats, they do it with trading cards.

Think it's kinda cool though, I like the profile background art and trading somewhat connects you with other players some more. (But it's no multiplayer :P )

I bought up a bunch of cards of the steam market with my left over steam wallet, then crafted them and ended up with another Kerbin background (duplicate), a Jool background and a "Lost in Space" Kerbals in EVA suits background.

Anybody got any others? I entered the names of all the planets and moons but didn't find anything on the steam market.

But then again there are only 4 of the Lost in Space background available on the Steam market at the moment, so maybe some of them are rare.

Hey All,

I got 4 Trading Cards now and would like to have the other ones too. So I am posting mine here (except the Jeb one since it's already posted) and hopefully somebody else will add the other ones. Or if someone found the other ones on the internet I wouldn't mind either.

Bill Kerman

Jeb Kerman

Kerbal Recruit

Gene Kerman

Is there a marketplace for KSP trading cards?

The Steam Community Market: http://steamcommunity.com/market/

Also, to respond on the post above, Squad is involved in this for 2 reasons:

- the artwork when you click on a card. That's not just some screenshots from the game, it's real artwork (the Jeb one is awesome), so it's from someone within the dev team (probably danRosas).

- when a card is sold on the Community Market, Valve gets 5% of the sale, and the dev team 10%. Sure, it's one or 2 cents per card, but it's still a bonus. That also explains why almost every game on Steam gets cards recently. :D

Anyway, the good thing about trading cards is: if you don't want badges for every game, you can sell the ones you don't care about to buy the ones you want. I've yet have to pay extra for cards, and I got like 8 badges already.

edit: also, it's a "Steam feature" as in "we made 8 artworks". No code or something else. It's just an added bonus, and the artwork is accessible to anyone once you have the URLs. It's not a big change like Steamworks integration or the like.

second edit: for those not on Steam, here are the artworks:

First card was ol' Jeb for me. Is that good? (edit: ok now make that two Jebediah Kerman Cards. If someone wants to trade me for it I currently have two Jeb's and two Kerbal Recruit cards so one extra of each.

I'll trade you a Wernher Kerman for one of those?

So someone at steam does his KSP research and makes these cards? What a strange concept.

No. SQUAD volunteered to VALVe to do this, though, strangely enough, the summer-sale art was done by VALVe. Basically, SQUAD has to ask them to do the trading cards, then VALVe gives them the tools and requirements. They submit the cards to VALVe, and then VALVe releases them when they release more cards. It was entirely up to SQUAD whether or not they get trading cards, though I believe VALVe had some leverage.

I am not sure of the behind-the-scenes process myself. I'll have to ask. Who knows, maybe I can get some cards for my own game someday :sticktongue:

Well, at least know that the game creators have to do the card-adding. VALVe did the summer-sale art, including all the summer getaway cards and the postcards.

I actually went ahead and got my level 5 KSP badge, which is on my Steam profile in my signature.

So it is basically a steam only feature, which Squad originally didnt wanted?

Technically, yes, but it's not like it adds or subtracts anything from the base game. It's just a meta sort-of-thing for Steam users. No big deal to be honest, and I wouldn't hold it against them.

What gives you the idea that they didn't want it? LIke Ivan said, it doesn't really detract from anything, you just need some artwork to stick on them and valve does the rest.

Edit: Also, note this quote from dan on the last weekly

Daniel (DanRosas): Finished those 2d assets I started last week. I'm pretty sure you'll meet them soon enough

I'm assuming that relates to the cards, so it was planned for a while from these external observations.

Nova to the rescue, as always! And yeah, I was gonna mention how the Kerbal Recruit card has already been flashed around on a KSP Weekly update or suchlike before the cards were released...

Also the Jeb artwork is hilarious end of story.

If you go to your badges page, and click on the Jeb card, it'll open up as a 1080p wallpaper.

Is it like that I can only have them for a limited amount of time or I can get them like year from now? I'm on vacation right now...

You can earn and craft them whenever. It's not a limited time thing at all.
