Ho do I have a ribbon and a short quote in my signature without one being cropped?

If you don't use the

tags, it'll be small enough to fit. The quote block has a lot of spacing on it. Alternatively, you could try putting them in a table of some sort; have ribbons on the left and quote on the right... though that's a little bit more complicated fiddling about with bbcodes. Tables look a bit like this:

td is a cellwhile tr is a row

so thislooks like the below

td is a cell

while tr is a row

so this

looks like the below

In your case, you might use something like this -- one row, two cells:

Short quote goes here.

Which would give something like this:

image.php?user_ribbon=1008

Short quote goes here.

You can change the width, alignment, and even add a border as well. If you go into the advanced post editor (click the Go Advanced button near the bottom right of the Quick Reply box), you can customise tables as you see fit using the table buttons provided. :) (Note that according to the Community Rules, 750px is the maximum total width for a signature.)

"Too many people these days ride on the shoulders of classics when writing what they call science fiction. They tell stories in which they have created nothing new, imagined no new possibilities; this is not science fiction, it is fantasy."

Yeah, but David Drake tells some pretty good rehashes of classic literature. ;)
